BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Friday 21 November 2014 – The Foundation Laying Ceremony for the proposed Surau and Defence Academy Headquarters – Package 4 was held at the project site at Kg Tanah Jambu today.
The event was inaugurated by the guest of honour, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF).
The site location is within the new Defence Academy at Kg Tanah Jambu. This package comprise of 2 buildings which is the Surau and Defence Academy Headquarters. The Surau building in particular is designed on a highest platform on site to compliment the Malay Islamic Monarchy Philosophy and value.
The Surau has a prayer hall which could accommodate 300 people, a VIP Room, a porch and basic amenities. The Defence Academy Headquarters building primarily consist of office space and conference room.
The development of this package will form part of the primary concept for the Defence Academy to compliment the Vision of the Ministry of Defence in delivering robust, responsive and resource efficient armed forces by attributing respect to the defence of Our Sovereignty, Our territorial integrity and by holding the constitution and the Malay Islamic Monarchy philosophy. The Defence Academy will be the most advanced, up-to-date and relevant officer training facility within the region.
The Consultants engaged for this project are Arkitek Rekajaya as the Architect, Adwan Associates as the Civil/Structural Engineering Consultants, Regional Consultants as the M&E Engineering Consultant and HZ & Associates as the Quantity Surveyor.
The project is awarded and under construction by Jackton Construction & Developing Co. Sdn Bhd at B$3,938,370.00 with construction period of 13 months and due to complete in August 2015.
The ceremony was also attended by Directors, officers and staff from Officer Cadet School and Directorate of Development and Work Services. Also in attendance were the Project Consultants.
