BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Monday 27 October 2014 – Bilateral relations between Brunei and Indonesia, especially in terms of defence cooperation, continue to grow stronger and closer, said the Indonesian ambassador.
During the 69th anniversary celebration of Indonesia’s National Armed Forces or Tentera Nasional Indonesia (TNI) last night, Nurul Qomar said she was optimistic of current ties and looked forward to further improving the relations.
“In defence cooperation, our relations are very high and good. We are happy with the cooperation that we have in terms of armed forces. This cooperation can be seen in the number of visits, participation in exercises, in training, humanitarian efforts and peacekeeping,” said the envoy.
“In the years to come, I hope we will become closer with tighter relations and also the exchange of personnel and visits will be made more frequent,” she added.
Nurul noted the growing exchange of visits by military delegations from both countries, the agreement of two warships from Brunei to the Indonesian Navy.
Deputy Minister of Defence Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa Haji Sirat as the guest of honour and spouse Pg Datin Hjh Jamilah Pg Hj Mohd Yussof. Also present was Royal Brunei Armed Forces Commander Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih Abdullah.
