SUNGAI AKAR CAMP, Friday 24 October 2014 – The Officer Cadet School (OCS) of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) this morning held a Promotion Ceremony at the Gurkha Reserve Unit Officer’s Mess. Thirty successful candidates were appointed as Officer Cadets after undergoing through Armed Forces Commissioning Board, conducted from 9 until 19 September 2014.
Out of 57 candidates attended the selection process, proving the high standard of physical and mental aptitude achieved by the 30 successful candidates – OCS has come to be recognized as a centre of excellence, with the focus on quality not quantity.
The newly appointed Officer Cadets were presented with their new ranks by RBAF Commander, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah.
Also present at the ceremony were Services Commanders and Commandant of Defence Academy RBAF, Military Directors, Senior Officers and the families of the newly appointed officer cadets.
Later that morning, the Course Officiating Ceremony for the 13th Intake of the Officer Cadet School was officiated by the guest of honour, Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat, Deputy Ministry of Defence.
Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa congratulated the 30 Officer Cadets on their achievement thus far and reminded them of the qualities required in the challenges ahead.
The 13th Intake at OCS consists of 18 male and 12 female Officer Cadets. Of these, 14 will join the Royal Brunei Land Force, 8 will join the royal Brunei Navy and 8 will join the Royal Brunei Air Force.
This intake will be the first to undergo a newly extended course consisting of over 52 weeks of training, including the addition of a Range Conducting Officer Course which will qualify all new graduates of OCS to run static live firing ranges. This augments tested Commissioning Course, consisting of fundamental military skills, leadership, academics and physical fitness.
Those who prove themselves worthy of making the stringent standards of OCS will receive His Majesty’s Commission at the prestigious Sovereign’s Parade at the new Defence Academy site in Meragang in October 2015.
