BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Tuesday 20 May 2014 – The Opening Ceremony for the 4th ACMMC took place this morning at the Rizqun International Hotel.


The Guest of Honour at the Ceremony was Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Seri Pahlawan Mohammad Tawih bin Abdullah, Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF).

The Ceremony started with a doa recital by Captain Ariffin bin Amit.  As the Chairperson for the 4th ACMMC, the Chief Medical Officer of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Lt Col Dr. Mohd Hafizul bin Awg Hj Mohd Hassan delivered a welcoming speech. He began with expressing his condolences to Laos delegates with the recent tragedy that has occurred. He highlighted the importance of the existing ASEAN relationship which can be strengthened by sharing ideas, knowledges and experience in military medicine. Further, he stressed the significance of military medical research, especially collaborative research, to improve the medical services for our personnel and their families.


This was then supported further by the Commander of RBAF in his speech. He also emphasized the crucial role of military medical service in disaster relief within the ASEAN region, which not only provides support and medical services for casualties but also gives an opportunity for the collaboration and cooperation among countries. The conference was then officially opened with the striking of the gong.


The opening ceremony ended with a keynote address from Col Dr Rozali entitled ‘Military Medicine Research in Malaysia’. Col Dr Rozali is the Assistant Director of Medical Services At the 2nd Infantry Division Headquarters of the Malaysian Army.


Also in attendance at the ceremony was Brigadier General Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Yussof bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Deputy Commander RBAF and Commander Of Royal  Brunei Land Forces, Directors from both Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Health, ASEAN Defence Attaches, senior officers and guests.
