BERAKAS, Saturday 17 May 2014 – The Inter-Ministry Sports Festival (PSKK) 2014 was officiated today by the Minister of Education, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setai (Dr) Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong at the National Sports Complex Hassanal Bolkiah Indoor Stadium in Berakas.
The sports festival is participated by contingents comprising of 2190 officers and staff from 12 ministries. Representing the Ministry of Defence at the festival was its contingent of 277 participants led by Deputy Permanent Secretary (Technology), Awang Haji Azhar bin Haji Ahmad.
The Inter Ministry Games is organized by the Youth and Sports Department, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports in co operation with Brunei Darussalam National Sports Council.
A total of 10 sports events will be contested namely Athletic, Badminton, Cycling, Futsal, Top-Spinning, Netball, Pentanque, Sepak Takraw, Ten Pin bowling and Indoor Tug-of-War.
There are 311 prize medals (99 gold, 99 silver and 113 bronze) up for grabs. The Ministry of Defence will participate in all the events.
Among the aim of Inter Ministry Games is to implement the “National Sports Policy” especially in the “Sports For The Community” in paving the way to develop sports in line with national economic, social and spiritual development, as well as to provide opportunities for officers and civil servants at all levels and departments to actively participate in guided and organized sports activities.
It also aims to foster unity and cooperation among ministries and government departments, and at the same time, to improve the quality of talent and sports, especially among the officers and government employees, which is partly made up of youth who possess potentials to become a member of the national sport.
The sport festival will be held from 17 May until 24 May 2014.
