NYAY PYI TAW, MYANMAR, Friday, 25 April 2014 – The 3rd ASEAN Defence Industry Collaboration (ADIC) concluded with the finalization of the Terms of Reference for the Consultative Group for ADIC and a proposed outline framework for the mplementation of ADIC. The meeting was chaired by Lt Gen Thein Htay, Chief of Defence Industries, Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. The meeting was attended by delegates from all ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting countries.
The Head of Delegation from Brunei Darussalam for the Meeting was Lt Col (Rtd) Pg Hj Muhd Sazali bin Pg Hj Yakob, Corporate Support Manager, Centre of Science and Technology Research and Development and he was accompanied by Pg Mohd Yusre bin Pg Hj Daud, an officer at the Directorate of Defence Policy.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman presented his view that ADIC provides an enormous opportunity for ASEAN member states to collaborate in the area of defence industry. He also stated ADIC offers a good opportunity to create coordinated defence industrial and technological base in the region. The meeting discussed the formation and composition of the ADIC Consultative Group (CG). The Workshop agreed on the final version of the draft TOR for the CG of ADIC which will be discussed for adoption at the next ASEAN Defence Senior Officials Meeting in Myanmar.
Myanmar also presented a proposed framework for the implementation of ADIC. The framework is seen to be necessary as a practical guidance for the conduct of defence industry collaborative activities under the ambit of ADIC. The Framework comprises of three categories of activities, namely Education and Training, Collaboration and Transfer of Technology.
The Workshop ended with the presentation of Chairman Statement of the 3rd ADIC workshop.
