MUARA, Monday 13 March 2017 – A Vietnamese fishing trawler and ten Vietnamese fishermen were handed over to Police Marine after the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) ship KDB DARUSSALAM, on patrol duties, spotted the foreign vessel conducting illegal fishing activities on Monday, 13 March 2017, approximately 90 nautical miles from the shoreline within Brunei Darussalam’s Exclusive Economic Zone.

The Vietnamese Trawler and all 10 of its fishermen were brought back and handed over to Marine Police on the next day, 14 March 2017. Also present were representatives from the Fisheries Department and the Vietnamese Embassy.

All 10 Vietnamese fishermen are currently being held under Section 17 (1) of Fisheries Order 2009.
