BOLKIAH GARRISON, Friday 22 July 2016
– The recipients of the 2016 Ministry of Defence Scholarship today hosted a closing ceremony marking the conclusion for a 9-week long Freshmen Induction Programme, at the Officers’ Mess in Bolkiah Garrison.

The guest of honour for the ceremony was the Deputy Minister of Defence, First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit. The Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Yang DiMuliakan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, members of Defence Executive Committee, service commanders, senior officials, invited guests and members of the senior intake of MINDEF scholars also attended the closing ceremony.

The programme is part of a larger MINDEF Scholarship Programme aimed at grooming recipients to be future leaders in the Ministry of Defence and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. This year’s induction programme was held from 9 May 2016 to 22 July 2016. The programme served as an introduction to the Ministry of Defence; and through personal development courses, the scholars’ communication and leadership skills are further developed. To instil a strong sense of belonging, the scholars underwent an intensive familiarisation process, with visits to the various directorates and units in the Ministry of Defence, and attended a military orientation course.

The six scholars join 29 other MINDEF scholars currently studying in top institutions all over the world. 49 have already returned to serve in various departments and units in the Ministry of Defence and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
