BOLKIAH GARRISON, Monday 4 July 2016 – The Ministry of Defence (MinDef) today marked the completion of its recital of the Al-Quran with a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony to commemorate the holy month of Ramadhan.

Present at the ceremony was First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit, the Deputy Minister of Defence at the Ministry’s Surau at Bolkiah Garrison.

The ceremony was part of the ministry’s efforts in promoting religious activities during Ramadhan and is practised every year during the holy month and is aimed at encouraging the ministry and RBAF personnel to complete the recital of all 30 juzuk of the Al-Quran.

This practice is in line with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s aspiration for the people to uphold the knowledge and reading skills of Al-Quran as well as to produce an Al-Quran literate nation.

Also in attendance at the ceremony was Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Mejar Jeneral Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Commander, Deputy Permanent Secretaries as well as military and civillian Directors at the ministry.

The event began with a recital of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by a mass recitation of Surah-surah from the Al-Quran and a reading of the Takhtim and Doa Khatam.
