BRUNEI GARRISON, Friday 27 May 2016 – The Official Handover Ceremony of the Estate Development Plan – Community Centre at Brunei Garrison, Seria was held at the project site this afternoon.
The event was officiated with the mock key presentation by the Guest of Honour, Awang Abu Sufian bin Haji Ali, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Defence Policy and Development), Ministry of Defence to Colonel Mark Ropel, Royal Engineers.
Also present during this event were the Director of Development and Work Services (DDWS), Ministry of Defence, Hajah Marliyana Bte Hj Abdullah Fung, as well as officers and staff of DDWS and Brunei Garrison.
The ceremony commenced with the recital of surah Al Fatihah led by Ustaz Haji Rosli bin Haji Batang, Directorate of Administration and Manpower. This was followed by the handover of key from the contractor W.L.W. Developer & Trading Co. Sdn Bhd, to the lead consultant Arkitek Urusreka. Arkitek Urusreka passed the key to the Director of Development and Work Services, who then presented the key to the Guest of Honour. Finally, the Guest of Honour handed the key to Colonel Mark Ropel, Royal Engineers and Major Alan Pibwoth, Deputy Chief of Staff as the end user. The ceremony concluded with a doa selamat, a brief video of the project and then a tour of the facility by the guests.
The newly constructed Community Centre is a project undertaken by DDWS to provide a safe and functional hub for community and welfares organisation. It provides coordinated services to ensure that the welfare needs of soldiers of Brunei Garrison and their families are fully supported.
The Community Centre is a single storey building located in a combined complex, situated at the centre for existing and future Service Family Accommodation (SFA). The facilities provided include a multipurpose hall, external secured courtyard, crèche facilities for pre-school children, Youth Centre, SSAFA office, Unit Welfare Team office, SSO office, HIVE information centre, Garrison library and Defence Postal Service facility.
The main contractor for the Community Centre project was W.L.W Developer & Trading Co. Sd Bhd; Architecture Consultant was Arkitek Urusreka; Civil and Structural Consultant was Konsaltan MWH; Mechanical and Electrical Consultant was Sepakat Setia Perunding (B) Sdn Bhd; Quantity Surveyor Consultant was Juruukur Bahan dan Pengurusan Utamacon.
