CHANGI NAVAL BASE, SINGAPORE, Friday 6 May 2016 – After departing from Brunei Darussalam yesterday, militaries participating in the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus Maritime Security and Counter-Terrorism Exercise (ADMM-Plus MS & CT Ex) are en-route to Singapore for the second leg of the multilateral exercise.
Today, the participating ADMM-Plus countries continued with their joint drills that include the conduct of maritime security visit, board, search and seizure (MS VBSS) which involve checking and inspection of suspected vessels that may carry illegal goods, and cross deck landing practices that relate to exchange of personnel from one vessel to another or landing of aircraft from one ship to another.
Meanwhile, Exercise Steering Committee reconvened today that was presided by the Co-Exercise Directors of the ADMM Plus MS & CT Exercise. Present were the representatives from both the ADMM-Plus Experts’ Working Groups (EWG) Co-Chairs of Maritime Security and Counter-Terrorism. The meeting which was held at the Changi Naval Base briefed on the latest sequence of events and status of the conduct of the second phase of the ADMM-Plus MS & CT Ex.
The ADMM-Plus MS & CT Exercise aims to promote practical maritime cooperation in information sharing among ADMM-Plus countries and build a common understanding to establish and practice baseline interoperability procedures in Maritime Security matters, including baseline reporting and boarding procedures in multi-lateral maritime operations.
