SERIA, Monday 29 February 2016 – The Royal Brunei Armed Forces have stepped up its aerial firefighting operations to support efforts in tackling the wildfires in Seria, which has covered parts of Anduki and the Seria Bypass highway with thick smoke.
The Royal Brunei Air Force S70i Blackhawk helicopters involved in the operations were fitted with 660-gallon aerial firefighting Bambi Buckets. Today the aircrafts made 65 aerial water-bombing runs on areas that have been difficult to reach via land routes.
The aerial firefighting operations started last weekend, in coordination with the National Disaster Management Centre, during which the aircrafts conducted water bombings to control the bushfires.
Brunei is experiencing a prolonged dry spell with daily temperatures reaching 34 degrees C, with the El Niño weather phenomenon expected to continue into late March.
