SINGAPORE, Tuesday, 29 January 2019 – Deputy Permanent Secretary, Haji Mohd Zakaria bin Haji Sarudin attended the 7th International Institute of Strategic Studies (IISS) Fullerton Forum, which took place from 27 to 29 January 2019 at the Fullerton Forum Hotel, Singapore.
The forum, also known as the ‘IISS Shangri-La Dialogue Sherpa Meeting’ is a platform that enables key regional security issues to be discussed amongst defence, military officials and non-governmental experts. This year, the forum focused on important regional security issues that included management of threats to maritime stability, cooperation and prevention of crisis escalation.
During the opening, The Honourable Christopher Pyne, Australia’s Minister for Defence delivered the Keynote Address.
On the sidelines of the forum, the Deputy Permanent Secretary attended the ASEAN-ROK Delegation Meeting to discuss the provisional agenda of the upcoming 3rd ROK-ASEAN Defence Vice-Ministerial Talks, scheduled for September 2019.
The Deputy Permanent Secretary also paid a courtesy call on Mr. Chan Yeng Kit, Permanent Secretary (Defence), and met with Mr. Teo Eng Dih, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy), Ministry of Defence of Singapore. During the meetings, both sides reaffirmed the close and longstanding bilateral defence relations between both countries.
The Deputy Permanent Secretary also made a working visit to the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) Integrated Complex.
The Fullerton Forum was organised by IISS in support and in preparation for the 18th IISS Shangri-La Dialogue, which will take place on 31 May to 2 June 2019.

SINGAPURA, Selasa, 29 Januari 2018 – Timbalan Setiausaha Tetap, Haji Mohd Zakaria bin Haji Sarudin menghadiri Forum Fullerton ke-7 anjuran International Institute of Strategic Studies (IISS), yang berlangsung pada 27 hingga 29 Januari 2019 di Fullerton Hotel, Singapura.
Forum yang juga dikenali sebagai ‘IISS Shangri-La Dialogue Sherpa Meeting’ merupakan landasan yang memberikan peluang kepada delegasi-delagasi untuk membincangkan isu-isu keselamatan serantau. Pada tahun ini, forum tersebut telah mengetengahkan isu-isu keselamatan yang penting termasuk pengurusan ancaman terhadap kestabilan maritim, kerjasama serta usaha-usaha untuk menangani krisis. Semasa pembukaan forum, The Honourable Christopher Pyne, Menteri Pertahanan Australia telah memberikan ucaptama.
Timbalan Setiausaha Tetap seterusnya menghadiri Mesyuarat Delegasi ASEAN-ROK untuk membincangkan agenda tentatif bagi Mesyuarat 3rd ROK-ASEAN Defence Vice-Ministerial Talks yang dijadualkan akan berlangsung pada bulan September 2019.
Timbalan Setiausaha Tetap juga mengadakan kunjungan hormat kepada Tuan Chan Yeng Kit, Setiausaha Tetap (Pertahanan) dan membuat perjumpaan bersama Tuan Teo Eng Dih, Timbalan Setiausaha Tetap (Dasar) Kementerian Pertahanan Singapura. Semasa perjumpaan tersebut, kedua-dua pihak telah mengesahkan hubungan pertahanan dua hala yang sudah lama terjalin dan erat di antara kedua negara.
Timbalan Setiausaha Tetap telah juga membuat lawatan kerja ke Agensi Sains dan Teknologi Pertahanan (DSTA).
Forum Fullerton yang dianjurkan oleh IISS adalah merupakan persediaan bagi IISS Shangri-La Dialogue ke-18, yang akan berlangsung pada 31 Mei hingga 2 Jun 2019.
