REPUBLIC OF SINGAPORE, Friday, 26 October 2018 – A total of 25 officers from the Ministry of Defence of Brunei Darussalam and Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), and Ministry of Defence of Republic of Singapore and Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) arrived at Brunei International Airport from the Republic of Singapore to start the second and final phase of the programme which will run from 26 October 2018 to 30 October 2018. The entourage was headed by the Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Mr Haji Amiruddin bin Haji Mohammad Hassan, who attended the closing ceremony of the first phase of the programme in the Republic of Singapore on Thursday, 25 October 2018.

The Singapore phase of the 10th BSDSDP-Alumni consisted of lessons in leadership theory and exercises in order to enhance the participants’ leadership skills. The participants also engaged in team-building activities for a more involved and rewarding experience. The experience is hoped to be meaningful and beneficial in order to aid the scholars in their work careers.

The Singapore phase concluded with an Alumni Dinner held on Thursday, 25 October 2018 which were graced by the guests of honour, Awang Haji Amiruddin bin Haji Mohammad Hassan, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence of Brunei Darussalam and Mr Keith Tan Kean Loong, Deputy Secretary (Policy) of the Ministry of Defence of Singapore. The event was also attended by Brigadier General Chua Boon Keat, Commandant of SAFTI MI; Colonel Lim Lit Lam, Head of Centre for Leadership Development (CLD) SAFTI MI; Awang Shahminan bin Haji Tengah, Acting Director of Administration and Manpower, Ministry of Defence of Brunei Darussalam; Lieutenant Colonel Haji Ismadi bin Haji Jumat, Defence Adviser of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of Singapore; and other senior officers in the Ministry of Defence, Republic of Singapore. Other Singaporean alumni of the previous BSDSDP were also in attendance.

The two guests of honour delivered speeches during the dinner. In their speeches, they stressed the importance of interpersonal relationships between the young leaders of Brunei Darussalam and Singapore in which the bonds are strengthened through exchange programmes such as the BSDSDP. They also highlighted the need for such exchanges to be maintained for years to come in order to further invigorate close ties and avenues for connection between the two countries.

Since its inauguration in 2007, the BSDSP is one of the initiatives by the Ministries of Defence of both Brunei Darussalam and Singapore to contribute to the personal development and professional careers of the scholarship recipients from both ministries. The 10th iteration of the BSDSDP celebrates the close friendship and cooperation between the two countries. While the lessons and activities are part of the main objectives of the programme, establishing close connections between young leaders of Ministry of Defence of Brunei Darussalam and Ministry of Defence of Republic of Singapore remains a fundamental aspect of the interaction.

10TH BRUNEI-SINGAPORE DEFENCE SCHOLARS’ DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME 2018 – ALUMNI

REPUBLIK SINGAPURA, Jumaat, 26 Oktober 2018 – 25 pegawai dari Kementerian Pertahanan dan Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei (ABDB), Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Kementerian Pertahanan dan Angkatan Bersenjata Republik Singapura (ABRS), Republik Singapura tiba di Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa Brunei untuk memulakan fasa kedua dan terakhir
10th Brunei-Singapore Defence Scholars Development Programme (BSDSP) 2018 – Alumni yang akan dijalankan mulai 26 Oktober hingga 30 Oktober 2018. Rombongan tersebut diketuai oleh Timbalan Setiausaha Tetap, Kementerian Pertahanan, Tuan Haji Amiruddin bin Haji Mohammad Hassan, yang telah bertolak ke Republik Singapura pada 25 Oktober 2018 bagi menyempurnakan Majlis Penutup fasa pertama di Republik Singapura.

Fasa Singapura melibatkan beberapa pelajaran dalam teori pemimpinan dan aktiviti-aktiviti bagi memantapkan tahap kepimpinan peserta-peserta program. Peserta-peserta juga terlibat dalam aktiviti-aktiviti berpasukan bagi mendalami pelajaran-pelajaran yang disampaikan demi pengalaman yang lebih bermanfaat. Pengalaman ini diharapkan dapat memberi makna dan bermanfaat bagi membantu pegawai-pegawai dalam kerjaya mereka.

Fasa Singapura tersebut diakhiri dengan Majlis Makan Malam Alumni yang dihadiri oleh tetamu-tetamu kehormat, Yang Mulia Awang Haji Amiruddin bin Haji Mohammad Hassan, Timbalan Setiausaha Tetap Kementerian Pertahanan Brunei Darussalam dan Yang Mulia Keith Tan Kean Loong, Timbalan Setiausaha (Dasar) Kementerian Pertahanan Singapura. Majlis juga dihadiri oleh Brigedier Jeneral Chua Boon Keat, Komandan SAFTI MI; Kolonel Lim Lit Lam, Ketua
Centre for Leadership Development (CLD) SAFTI MI; Awang Shahminan bin Haji Tengah, Pemangku Pengarah Jabatanarah Pentadbiran dan Tenaga Manusia, Kementerian Pertahanan Brunei Darussalam; Leftenan Kolonel Haji Ismadi bin Haji Jumat, Penasihat Pertahanan Brunei Darussalam kepada Republik Singapura; dan beberapa pegawai-pegawai kanan dari Kementerian Pertahanan Singapura. Turut hadir adalah pegawai-pegawai Republik Singapura yang terdiri dari
alumni peserta BSDSDP yang terdahulu.

Dalam majlis tersebut, kedua-dua tetamu kehormat memberikan kata-kata ucapan. Dalam ucapan tersebut, mereka menekankan kepentingan hubungan rapat antara pemimpin-pemimpin belia Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Republik Singapura yang dikukuhkan melalui program-program pertukaran seperti BSDSDP. Beliau juga menekankan kepentingan mengekalkan program-program pertukaran tersebut untuk tahun-tahun hadapan untuk meneruskan talian persahabatan rapat antara kedua negara.

Sejak BSDSDP bermula pada tahun 2007, ianya merupakan salah satu inisiatif Kementerian Pertahanan Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Republik Singapura dalam menyumbang kepada perkembangan peribadi dan kerjaya profesional penerima-penerima biasiswa dari kedua buah negara. BSDSDP yang ke-10 ini meraikan hubungan keakraban dan kerjasama antara kedua negara. Walaupun pengajaran dan aktiviti dari program merupakan objektif utama, ikatan rapat antara pemimpin-pemimpin belia dari kedua Kementerian Pertahanan tetap menjadi aspek asas dalam program kongsi sama tersebut.
