TANAH JAMBU CAMP, Tuesday, 24 April 2018 – Following the successful launch of Phase 1 of the ASEAN Direct Communications Infrastructure at the closing of the 4th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) in Clark, Pampanga, Republic of the Philippines, on 24 October 2017, the Ministry of Defence of Brunei Darussalam is hosting the Fourth Ad-Hoc Working Group Meeting on the ASEAN Direct Communications Infrastructure (ADI) from 24 to 25 April 2018 at the Defence Academy Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), Tanah Jambu.
The two-day meeting intends to discuss further on the progress of establishing the ADI and the subsequent phase after its launch. As discussed in the previous ad-hoc working group meetings, the ADI initiative has been divided into three phases.
Present to co-chair the meeting were Haji Adi Ihram bin Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud, Director of Defence Policy, who is also ASEAN Defence Senior Officials Meeting (ADSOM) Working Group Leader for Brunei Darussalam, and Lieutenant-Colonel Zainolhizad bin Haji Md. Zain of the Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) RBAF. The meeting is attended by representatives from the ASEAN Member States and the ASEAN Secretariat.
Brunei Darussalam championed the ADI initiative since the adoption of its Concept Paper under the framework of the ADMM in 2014. The 4th Ad-Hoc Working Group Meeting on ADI builds on the previous efforts of Ad-Hoc Working Group Meetings on the Direct Communications Link in the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) Process held in the years 2014, 2015 and 2016 respectively.
4th AD-HOC WORKING GROUP MEETING ON ASEAN DIRECT COMMUNICATIONS INFRASTRUCTURE DIRASMIKAN
PERKHEMAHAN TANAH JAMBU, Selasa, 24 April 2018 – Berikutan kejayaan pelancaran fasa pertama ASEAN Direct Communications Infrastructure (ADI) semasa penutupan Mesyuarat Menteri-Menteri Pertahanan ASEAN-Plus (ADMM-Plus) di Clark, Pampanga, Republik Filipina pada 24 Oktober 2017, Kementerian Pertahanan Negara Brunei Darussalam menganjurkan Mesyuarat Ad-Hoc peringkat kerja bagi ASEAN Direct Communications Infrastructure (ADI) yang ke-empat dari 24 hingga 25 April 2018 di Akademi Pertahanan Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei (ABDB), Tanah Jambu.
Mesyuarat ini yang berlangsung selama dua hari akan membincangkan lebih lanjut mengenai perkembangan penubuhan ADI dan fasa seterusnya selepas pelancarannya. Seperti yang dibincangkan dalam mesyuarat sebelumnya, inisiatif ADI telah dibahagikan kepada tiga fasa.
Mesyuarat tersebut dipengerusikan bersama oleh Haji Adi Ihram bin Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud, Pengarah Dasar Pertahanan yang juga merupakan Ketua ADSOM Working Group bagi Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Leftenan Kolonel Zainolhizad bin Haji Md. Zain dari Markas Angkatan Bersama ABDB. Mesyuarat itu dihadiri oleh wakil-wakil dari negara anggota ASEAN dan Sekretariat ASEAN.
ASEAN Direct Communications Infrastructure merupakan inisiatif usaha Negara Brunei Darussalam sejak penerimaan kertas konsepnya di bawah rangka kerja ADMM pada tahun 2014. Mesyuarat ad-hoc kali ke-4 ini adalah usaha susulan daripada mesyuarat-mesyuarat peringkat kerja ad-hoc mengenai Direct Communications Link in the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) Process pada tahun 2014, 2015 dan 2016.
