PATTAYA, THAILAND, Sunday, 19 November 2017 – The 11th ASEAN Navy Chiefs’ Meeting (ANCM) was held today at the Dusit Tani Hotel in Pattaya, Thailand, with the theme “Protection and Preservation of the Marine Environment”.
The meeting was chaired by Admiral Naris Pratoomsuwan, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy (RTN). This year’s ANCM was held in conjunction to the International Fleet Review (IFR) 2017 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN that is slated to be held on 20 November 2017.
The ANCM was attended by the Chiefs of ASEAN Navies and their representatives, with Brunei Darussalam represented by First Admiral Pg Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pg Haji Muhammad, Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy.
Prior to the ANCM, the ASEAN Navy Chiefs and representatives held a joint call with the General (Retired) Prawit Wongsuwon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of Thailand. Following which, they also witnessed the opening ceremony of the IFR 2017 which was officially launched by General (Retired) Prawit Wongsuwon.
Later in the evening, an ASEAN Night Reception for the IFR 2017 was hosted by the Commander-in-Chief of RTN at The Point, Dusit Thani Hotel, Pattaya that included music performances which also showcased the newly-adopted ANCM anthem and a Thai boxing show.
The ANCM is an annual activity that is rotationally hosted by the ASEAN navies aimed to enhance cooperation and interoperability amongst ASEAN navies as well as to promote regional maritime security through various confidence building initiatives.
ASEAN NAVY CHIEFS’ MEETING KE-11
PATTAYA, THAILAND, Ahad, 19 November 2017 – ASEAN Navy Chiefs Meeting (ANCM) ke-11 telah diadakan pada hari ini di Hotel Dusit Tani, Pattaya, Thailand dengan tema “Perlindungan dan Pemeliharaan Alam Sekitar Marin”.
Mesyuarat ini dipengerusikan oleh Admiral Naris Pratoomsuwan, Pemerintah Tentera Laut Diraja Thailand (TLDT). Mesyuarat ANCM tahun ini telah diadakan sempena International Fleet Review (IFR) 2017 untuk memperingati Ulang Tahun ASEAN ke-50 yang akan diadakan pada 20 November 2017.
Mesyuarat ANCM telah dihadiri oleh Pemerintah-Pemerintah Angkatan Laut dan wakil-wakil dari sepuluh negara ASEAN, yang mana Negara Brunei Darussalam diwakili oleh Laksamana Pertama Pg Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pg Haji Muhammad, Pemerintah Tentera Laut Diraja Brunei.
Sebelum mesyuarat diadakan, Pemerintah-Pemerintah Angkatan Laut dan wakil-wakil ASEAN mengadakan kunjungan hormat bersama dengan Jeneral (B) Prawit Wongsuwon, Timbalan Perdana Menteri dan Menteri Pertahanan Thailand. Berikutan itu, Pemerintah-Pemerintah Angkatan Laut dan wakil-wakil ASEAN juga menyaksikan Majlis Pembukaan International Fleet Review (IFR) 2017 yang dilancarkan secara rasmi oleh Jeneral (Bersara) Prawit Wongsuwon.
Kemudian di malam hari, Majlis Resepsi ASEAN bagi IFR 2017 telah dianjurkan oleh Pemerintah TLDT di The Point, Dusit Thani Hotel, Pattaya, yang mana terdiri daripada persembahan muzik yang juga mempamerkan lagu tema ANCM dan pertunjukan Thai Boxing.
Mesyuarat ANCM adalah aktiviti tahunan yang diadakan secara bergiliran oleh Tentera Laut ASEAN, di mana bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kerjasama dan menggalakkan keselamatan maritim serantau menerusi pelbagai inisiatif pembinaan keyakinan.
