BOLKIAH GARRISON, Wednesday 23 October 2019 – Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Retired) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Second Minister of Defence, received a courtesy call from Rear Admiral Murray Joe “JT” Tynch, III, Commander, Logistics Group Western Pacific (COMLOG WESTPAC)/Task Force 73 (CTF73)/ Singapore Area Coordinator at the Ministry of Defence this morning.
During the call, both sides affirmed the friendly relations between the two countries and the robust bilateral cooperation notably in the area of defence and military cooperation. Both sides also highlighted the ongoing cooperation in military-related activities, especially with CARAT (Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training) Exercise in its 25th year, which is held from 22 to 31 October 2019.
This call is the second official visit by Rear Admiral Tynch III to Brunei Darussalam since he assumed the position as COMLOG WESTPAC in June 2018. Existing defence and military cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and the United States of America is cemented by the Memorandum of Understanding in Defence Cooperation signed on 29 November 1994. CARAT continues to be a key platform for military engagement between Brunei Darussalam and the United States through the Indo-Pacific Command, with Brunei Darussalam being one of the original partners for the CARAT Exercise since it was established in 1995.
MENTERI PERTAHANAN KEDUA TERIMA KUNJUNGAN HORMAT COMMANDER, LOGISTICS GROUP WESTERN PACIFIC (COMLOG WESTPAC)
BOLKIAH GARISON, Rabu 23 Oktober 2019 – Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Mejar Jeneral (Bersara) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Menteri Pertahanan Kedua, telah menerima kunjungan hormat daripada Laksamana Pertama Murray Joe “JT” Tynch, III, Commander, Logistics Group Western Pacific (COMLOG WESTPAC)/Task Force 73 (CTF73)/ Singapore Area Coordinator.
Semasa kunjungan hormat tersebut, kedua belah pihak telah mengesahkan hubungan mesra yang terjalin di antara kedua belah negara dan kerjasama yang sangat baik terutamanya dalam bidang pertahanan dan ketenteraan. Kedua belah pihak juga berpuas hati dengan status kerjasama pertahanan dan ketenteraan yang sedia ada, khususnya dengan latihan CARAT (Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training) kali ke-25 yang sedang giat berlangsung mulai 22 hingga 31 Oktober 2019.
Kunjungan hormat ini adalah kunjungan rasmi kedua Laksamana Pertama Murray Joe Tynch III sejak beliau mengambil alih jawatan sebagai COMLOG WESTPAC pada bulan Jun 2018. Kerjasama pertahanan antara Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Amerika Syarikat telah dimeterai dengan penandatangan Memorandum Persefahaman dalam kerjasama pertahanan pada 29 November 1994. CARAT terus menjadi platform kerjasama dalam bidang ketenteraan antara Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Amerika Syarikat melalui U.S. Indo–Pacific Command. Brunei Darussalam juga adalah salah satu negara rakan kongsi CARAT yang telah menyertai CARAT sejak penubuhannya pada tahun 1995.
