BOLKIAH GARRISON, Thursday 2 May 2019 – Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Retired) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd. Yussof, Second Minister of Defence, received an introductory call this afternoon from His Excellency Matthew J. Matthews, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Brunei Darussalam.
During the call, the Second Minister of Defence congratulated His Excellency on his latest appointment. Both sides affirmed the friendly relations between the two countries and the robust bilateral cooperation notably in the defence and military sectors, and expressed pleasure with the on-going bilateral cooperation in military-related activities which includes the Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Exercise. Both sides are also pleased with the continued engagements at the multilateral level through Southeast Asia Cooperation and Training (SEACAT), the Western Pacific Naval Symposium (WPNS), as well as through the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) framework.
Defence and military cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and the United States of America is cemented by the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Defence Cooperation signed on 29 November 1994. Added to this, the Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement (ACSA) was signed on 29 July 2010 with the primary purpose of expanding cooperation in the field of logistics.
His Excellency presented his Letter of Credence to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on 15 April 2019.
KUNJUNGAN PENGENALAN DARIPADA DUTA BESAR AMERIKA SYARIKAT KE NEGARA BRUNEI DARUSSALAM
BOLKIAH GARISON, Khamis 2 Mei 2019 – Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Mejar Jeneral (Bersara) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd. Yussof, Menteri Pertahanan Kedua, telah menerima kunjungan pengenalan daripada Tuan Yang Terutama Matthew J. Matthews, Duta Besar Istimewa dan Mutlak Amerika Syarikat ke Negara Brunei Darussalam, pada petang tadi.
Semasa kunjungan pengenalan tersebut, Yang Berhormat Menteri Pertahanan Kedua mengucapkan tahniah atas pelantikan Tuan Yang Terutama Matthews sebagai Duta Besar Amerika Syarikat ke Negara Brunei Darussalam. Kedua belah pihak telah merakamkan rasa puas hati ke atas tahap persahabatan dan kerjasama yang sangat baik, terutamanya dalam bidang pertahanan dan ketenteraan. Pada peringkat dua hala, kerjasama terus dipupuk melalui pelbagai landasan termasuk eksesais Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT). Kerjasama dan interaksi yang berterusan pada peringkat pelbagai hala seperti melalui Southeast Asia Cooperation and Training (SEACAT), Western Pacific Naval Symposium (WPNS), dan ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) turut memberikan sumbangan kepada jalinan persahabatan kedua buah negara.
Kerjasama pertahanan dan ketenteraan di antara Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Amerika Syarikat telah dimeterai melalui penandatanganan Memorandum Persefahaman dalam kerjasama pertahanan pada 29 November 1994. Kerjasama ini juga diperluaskan ke bidang lojistik melalui Acquisitions and Cross-Servicing Agreement yang ditandatangani pada 29 Julai 2010.
Tuan Yang Terutama telah menyembahkan Surat Watikah Pelantikan beliau Kehadapan Majlis Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam pada 15 April 2019.
