PENANJONG GARRISON, Friday, 15 March 2019 – The closing ceremony for the English Language Course for Foreign Armed Forces Session 2019 was held at the Training Institute, Royal Brunei Armed Forces (TI RBAF).
Present as the Guest of Honour was the Acting Commander of the Royal Brunei Land Force, Colonel Haji Damit bin Haji Bakar.
Also in attendance were the Ambassadors and Defence Attachés from the participating countries, Directors, Commandants, senior officers, teachers, instructors and course participants.
Already in its 6th iteration since the course’s commencement back in 2010, TI RBAF has hosted a number of military personnel from neighboring countries. The course was initially attended by foreign military personnel from the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Lao People’s Army. Nevertheless, the course has seen a significant growth in demand and has now expanded to cater to participants from six ASEAN countries.
This year English Language Course for the Foreign Armed Forces Session 2019 began on 11 February 2019 and ended on 15 March 2019. It comprised of 24 participants ranging from the rank Sergeant to Major from the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, Tentara Nasional Indonesia, Lao People’s Army, Myanmar Armed Forces, Royal Thai Armed Forces and Vietnamese People’s Army. Each country was represented by four personnel.
The primary objectives of this course are to develop the course participants’ proficiency in writing, reading, and speaking the English Language and also to improve their communication skills in both social and professional settings. In addition, this course is one of the many activities undertaken that contributes to Defence Diplomacy, one of the three key thrusts in Brunei Darussalam’s Defence Strategy, through enhancing ties with neighbouring ASEAN countries.
The highlight of the closing ceremony of the course was the presentation of certificates to all course participants by the guest of honour and the presentation of awards to the top students in their respective categories. Sergeant Apisak Thadthiam from the Royal Thai Armed Forces received the award for the overall ‘Best Student’, while Sergeant Clerk Thaw Zin Phyo from the Myanmar Armed Forces was the recipient of the ‘Most Improved Student’ award and Sergeant Apisak Thadthiam was selected as the ‘Best Oral Presenter’.
To conclude the ceremony, the guest of honour officially closed the English Language Course for Foreign Armed Forces Session 2019.
MAJLIS PENUTUPAN KURSUS BAHASA INGGERIS BAGI ANGKATAN TENTERA LUAR NEGARA SESI 2019
PENANJONG GARISON, Jumaat, 15 Mac 2019 – Majlis penutupan Kursus Bahasa Inggeris bagi Angkatan Tentera Luar Negara Sesi 2019 telah diadakan di Institut Latihan Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei (IL ABDB).
Hadir selaku tetamu kehormat ialah Pemangku Pemerintah TDDB, Kolonel Haji Damit bin Haji Bakar.
Turut hadir ialah Duta-Duta dan Atase / Penasihat Pertahanan dari negara-negara yang menyertai kursus, Pengarah-Pengarah, Komandan-Komandan, pegawai-pegawai kanan, guru-guru, jurulatih-jurulatih dan peserta-peserta kursus.
Kursus ini merupakan kali ke-6 sejak ia mula dikendalikan pada tahun 2010 dan sejak itu, IL ABDB telah menjadi tuan rumah bagi perlaksanaannya. Pada mulanya, kursus ini hanya dihadiri oleh anggota-anggota tentera luar negara dari Angkatan Tentera Diraja Kemboja dan Angkatan Tentera Rakyat Lao. Walau bagaimanapun, kursus ini telah mendapat sambutan yang memberangsangkan dan telah bertambah dari segi bilangan penyertaan kepada enam negara ASEAN.
Pada tahun ini, Kursus Bahasa Inggeris bagi Angkatan Tentera Luar Negara Sesi 2019 dikendalikan bermula pada 11 Februari 2019 dan berakhir pada 15 Mac 2019. Seramai 24 orang peserta kursus berpangkat Sarjan hingga Mejar dari enam buah negara ASEAN telah menghadirinya, iaitu Angkatan Tentera Diraja Kemboja, Tentara Nasional Indonesia, Angkatan Tentera Rakyat Lao, Angkatan Bersenjata Myanmar, Angkatan Tentera Diraja Thai dan Tentera Rakyat Viet Nam. Setiap negara menghantar empat orang anggota bagi menghadirinya.
Objektif utama kursus ini adalah untuk mengembangkan kebolehan dan kemahiran dari segi penulisan, bacaan dan pertuturan dan juga meningkatkan penggunaan Bahasa Inggeris dalam konteks sosial dan profesional. Di samping itu, kursus ini merupakan aktiviti yang dianjurkan bagi menyumbang ke Diplomasi Pertahanan, iaitu salah satu daripada tiga teras utama dalam Strategi Pertahanan Negara Brunei Darussalam, melalui meningkatkan hubungan dengan negara-negara ASEAN.
Kemuncak majlis penutupan kursus ialah penyampaian sijil kepada semua peserta kursus oleh tetamu kehormat dan penyampaian anugerah-anugerah kepada peserta kursus yang terbaik dalam kategori masing-masing. Anugerah Peserta Kursus Terbaik Keseluruhan dan Pembentang Terbaik telah disandang oleh Sarjan Apisak Thadthiam dari Angkatan Tentera Diraja Thailand manakala Sarjan Kanan Thaw Zin Phyo dari Angkatan Bersenjata Myanmar menerima anugerah “Most Improved Student”.
Bagi mengakhiri majlis, tetamu kehormat secara rasminya telah menutup Kursus Bahasa Inggeris untuk Angkatan Tentera Luar Negara Sesi 2019.
