BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Tuesday, 4 May 2021 – The 5th ASEAN Our Eyes (AOE) Working Group Meeting, hosted by Indonesia, was held virtually today at the International Convention Centre, Jalan Berakas. The meeting aims to further develop the initiative together, following the adoption of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of the AOE by the 14th ADMM in December 2020.
Brunei Darussalam was represented by Haji Adi Ihram bin Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Strategy), in his capacity as Brunei Darussalam’s ADSOM WG Leader. The meeting was also attended by representatives from the Joint Force Headquarters Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Directorate of Intelligence, Directorate of Defence Policy and Centre of Science and Technology Research and Development.
The meeting discussed the current environment of terrorism in the region, the mechanism of the initiative and the practical implementation of the SOP. The meeting was also briefed on the ASEAN Direct Communications Infrastructure (ADI) updates by Brunei Darussalam.
This initiative aims to foster intelligence cooperation in the field of non-traditional security threats, including terrorism, radicalism, and violent extremism. The Concept Paper on AOE was adopted by the 12th ADMM in 2018. Since then, the initiative has achieved several milestones, including the adoption of the Terms of Reference (TOR) in 2019 and the adoption of the SOP in 2020.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Sealasa, 4 Mei 2021 – Mesyuarat Kumpulan Kerja ASEAN Our Eyes (AOE) ke-5, dihoskan oleh Indonesia, telah diadakan atas talian pada hari ini di Pusat Konvensyen Antarabangsa, Jalan Berakas. Mesyuarat tersebut bertujuan bagi memajukan lagi inisiatif tersebut, berikutan penerapan Prosedur Operasi Piawai (SOP) bagi AOE oleh ADMM ke-14 pada bulan Disember 2020.
Negara Brunei Darussalam telah diwakili oleh Haji Adi Ihram bin Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud, Timbalan Setiausaha Tetap (Dasar dan Strategi), yang juga merupakan Ketua
ADSOM WG Negara Brunei Darussalam. Turut hadir ialah wakil-wakil dari Markas Angkatan Bersama Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei, Jabatanarah Perisikan, Jabatanarah Dasar Pertahanan dan Pusat Penyelidikan dan Pembangunan Sains dan Teknologi.
Mesyuarat tersebut membincangkan mengenai persekitaran pengganasan di rantau ini, mekanisme inisiatif dan pelaksanaan praktikal SOP. Mesyuarat juga diberi penerangan mengenai kemas kini Infrastruktur Komunikasi Langsung ASEAN (ADI) oleh Negara Brunei Darussalam.
Inisiatif ini berfungsi untuk memupuk kerjasama perisikan dalam bidang ancaman keselamatan bukan tradisional termasuk terorisme, radikalisme, dan ekstremisme yang ganas. Kertas Konsep mengenai AOE telah ditubuhkan oleh ADMM ke-12 pada tahun 2018. Sejak itu, inisiatif ini telah mencapai beberapa kejayaan, termasuk penerapan Terma Rujukan (TOR) pada tahun 2019 dan penerapan SOP pada tahun 2020.
