BOLKIAH GARRISON, Thursday 10 November 2016
– The 9th East Asia Security Outlook (EASO) seminar was held today at the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Band Building, Bolkiah Garrison.

The seminar, conducted by the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (SHHBIDSS), was divided into two sessions – the morning session discussed topics pertaining to East Asia’s strategic and security environment while the afternoon session looked into dynamics in the maritime domain.

The event was attended by Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), members of the Defence Executive Committee, service commanders and officers from the Ministry of Defence and the RBAF.

Also present were senior officers from the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF).

Meanwhile the panel of speakers included distinguished academics and analysts from the Australian National University, Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS Singapore), National University of Malaysia, S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS Singapore), Sogang University (South Korea), University of the Philippines and Yale-NUS College (Singapore).

Present to handover tokens of appreciation was the Commander of Royal Brunei Navy, First Admiral Pg Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi Bin Pg Haji Muhammad.

SHHBIDSS has conducted the EASO seminar annually since 2009, with the aim to provide deeper understanding as well as to contribute to discourse on East Asian regional security.
