BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Monday 19 May 2014 - The Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) is honoured to host the 4th ASEAN Chiefs of Military Medicine Conference (ACMMC) from the 19th -20th May 2014. The conference is taking place at the Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong.
The ACMMC which is organised under the auspices of the ADMM and ACDFIM serves as a key mode of cooperation, discussion and exchange of ideas among the ten ASEAN Chiefs of Military Medicine.
This is in line with the theme for the conference this year, “Enhancing ASEAN Militaries Cooperation Through Military Medical Research”.
Among those who came for this event include head of delegates and their spouses as well as staff. Representatives from Thailand were the first to arrive on Saturday, 17 May 2012.
Delegates from Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos arrived the following day on Sunday, 18 May 2014. Present to welcome the delegates at the Rizqun International Hotel was the Chief Medical Officer of RBAF, Lt Col Dr Awg Mohd Hafizul bin Hj Awg Mohd Hassan.
The 2-day event commenced with bilateral meetings between the Chief Medical Officer, RBAF and each ASEAN Chief of Military Medicine. Among the topics discussed were collaboration in research, exchange of military medical research, training of medical personnel and methods of sharing the latest medical research as per the theme for this year.
Concurrently the Young ASEAN Military Medical Officer (YAMMO) made a site visit to the Medical and Dental Services at the Muara Naval base where a demonstration of key Level 1 capabilities of the Medical and Dental Services were shown.
All delegates were then brought for a visit to the Performance Optimisation Centre (POC) and the RBAF Museum at Bolkiah Garison. Here, they had the opportunity to view and be briefed by the Deputy Director of POC, Lt Col Dr Haji Mohd Baharin bin Haji Bintang, regarding research activities being carried out at the POC. This was subsequently followed by a short visit to the RBAF museum where they learned more about the history of the RBAF.
Meanwhile, spouses of the head of delegates were given the opportunity to have a taste of Bruneian culture with a visit to Baitul Wajihah at Kg. Wasan. In the afternoon, the delegates as well as the spouses were brought to tour the capital with visits to Masjid Jame’ Asr Hassanal Bolkiah, the Royal Regalia building and Kampung Ayer.
The rest of the event will be followed by the ASEAN Chief of Military Medicine Conference and the Young ASEAN Military Medical Officer (YAMMO) Scientific Programme that will take place on day 2.
