BALI INDONESIA, Monday 18 May 2015 – International Committee of Military Medicine (ICMM) was established in 1921, after World War 1, to increase the cooperation between the health services of the Armed Forces Medical Services. It is an internationally recognized organization located in Belgium. It offers all health services worldwide a neutral platform on which to address and tackle relevant issues of common interest objectively and impartially. ICMM works independently, regardless of any nationalities or backgrounds. ICMM is officially recognised by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a partner in global military health care.
The Vice President of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla officially opened the 41st International Committee of Military Medicine (ICMM) World Congress at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Centre, on Monday, May 18th 2015. The 41st ICMM World Congress on Military Medicine was hosted by the Ministry of Defence Malaysia and was held from 17 to 22 May 2015 and attended by 114 ICMM countries and 6 observer countries.
Brunei was represented by a dental officer, 714 Mej Dr Haskina Junaidi and a medical officer, 793 Mej Dr Norasiah Hj Ahmad from Combat Support Services, Royal Brunei Land Forces. At the same day, the Vice President of Indonesia also officially opened the Indonesia International Expo on Military (IEMM) running concurrently during the congress.
The Minister of Defense of Indonesia, General (Rtd) Ryamizard Ryacudu delivered his keynote lecture titled “Improving Military Medicine’s Knowledge, Skills and Competencies to Increase the Defensive Ability of the Country. This was followed by a plenary session on “Ebola Haemorrhagic Disease as a novel virus in emerging and re emerging infectious diseases”.
Plenary sessions, opportunity to meet the experts, symposiums, round table discussions, free paper and poster presentations were amongst the activities available during this 5-day congress. A gala dinner was held on Tuesday 19th May 2015 and the Closing ceremony was held on Friday 22nd May 2015. The participants were provided certificates of attendance on the last day of the congress.
