BOLKIAH GARRISON, Tuesday 30 August 2016 – The Ministry of Defence, Brunei Darussalam, is conducting its 13th annual Executive Development Programme (EDP) for senior officials at the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies, Ministry of Defence.
In collaboration with the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore, the three-month rigorous programme is designed and developed with the focus on public policy and management. The Programme will be delivered by a faculty made up of highly experienced academicians and experts. In addition, the Programme will also include visits to relevant ministries and agencies to provide further exposure for the participants on public policy in practice.
The EDP equips participants with the conceptual framework and cutting-edge tools needed for continual success in service. The participants will explore trends in managerial practice, gain new perspectives on public policy and management, and enhance core leadership skills. Participants are also expected to to adopt a multi-disciplinary approach to analyse programmes and policies, and the resulting outcomes and implications.
The EDP’s 30 participants are senior military officers from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, senior officers from other government ministries (Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade, Ministry of Education and the Monetory Authority of Brunei Darussalam), a senior police officer from the Royal Brunei Police Force and senior military officers from the armed forces of China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
In the opening address, Datin Paduka Hajah Suriyah binti Haji Umar, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence highlighted that the EDP is an essential component in the professional development of military and civilian officers alike. Datin Paduka Hajah Suriyah noted that the Ministry of Defence has been working constantly at improving the programme, by aligning its objectives with the national vision, Wawasan 2035. It was hoped that the participants would act as agents who would institutionalise the capabilities for effective organisational introspection and planning to meet the demands of an intensely challenging environment.
Introductory remarks on the course was also delivered by Ms. Wu Ye-Her, Executive Director of Executive Education from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore.
The ceremony was attended by High Commissioners, Ambassadors and Defence Attachés/Advisers from participating countries, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Permanent Secretaries from participating ministries, Senior Defence Officials and representatives from the National University of Singapore.
The programme runs from 29 August 2016 until 25 November 2016.
