MINISTRY OF DEFENCE ATTENDS 10th JAPAN-ASEAN DEFENSE VICE-MINISTERIAL FORUM

NAGOYA, JAPAN, Monday, 10 September 2018 – The 10th Japan-ASEAN Defense Vice-Ministerial Forum, a forum hosted by Japan where senior officials from the defence ministries of ASEAN Member States and ASEAN Secretariat are invited, was held today in Nagoya, Japan. 

Brunei Darussalam was represented by Brigadier General (Retired) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar bin Haji Ma’awiah, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence. The forum is chaired by His Excellency Ro Manabe, Japan’s Vice-Minister of Defense for International Affairs, which serves as a platform for ASEAN Member States and Japan to strengthen and forge closer ties. 

This year, the forum was divided into three sessions which focused on “Challenges in and Efforts for Sharing Universal Values Centred at the Rule of Law”, “Challenges and Efforts in Coping with Disasters” and “Vision for Further Deepening Japan-ASEAN Defence Cooperation”. Following the three sessions, a special address, focused on Malaysia’s current defence cooperation under Prime Minister Tun Mahathir’s administration, was delivered by The Honorable Haji Mohammad bin Sabu, Malaysia’s Minister of Defence. 

At the sidelines of the forum, Brigadier General (Retired) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar bin Haji Ma’awiah took the opportunity to hold bilateral calls with his counterparts. During the bilateral calls, Brunei Darussalam expressed support and commitment in enhancing the existing defence relations. 

As part of the forum’s programme, the delegation will visit Gifu Works of Kawasaki Heavy Industry, Japan’s premier manufacturers of aircraft and space systems in Japan tomorrow. 



KEMENTERIAN PERTAHANAN HADIRI JAPAN-ASEAN DEFENSE VICE-MINISTERIAL FORUM YANG KE-10

NAGOYA, JEPUN, Isnin, 10 September 2018 Japan-ASEAN Defense Vice-Ministerial Forum yang ke-10, satu forum yang dihoskan oleh Jepun di mana pegawai kanan dari Kementerian Pertahanan negara-negara anggota ASEAN dan ASEAN Sekretariat dijemput, telah diadakan pada hari ini di Nagoya, Jepun.  

Negara Brunei Darussalam telah diwakili adalah Brigedier Jeneral (Bersara) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar bin Haji Ma'awiah, Setiausaha Tetap, Kementerian Pertahanan. Forum tersebut dipengerusikan oleh Tuan Yang Terutama Ro Manabe, Naib Menteri Pertahanan bagi Hal Ehwal Antarabangsa, Kementerian Pertahanan Jepun, yang mana berfungsi sebagai platform untuk negara-negara ASEAN dan Jepun untuk menguatkan dan menjalin ikatan yang lebih erat antara negara-negara.

Pada tahun ini, forum ini memberi tumpuan kepada tiga topik utama iaitu "Challenges in and Efforts for Sharing Universal Values Centred at the Rule of Law", "Challenges and Efforts in Coping with Disasters" dan "Vision for Further Deepening Japan-ASEAN Defence Cooperation". Berikutan tiga sesi tersebut, satu ucaptama khas mengenai kerjasama pertahanan Malaysia di bawah pentadbiran Perdana Menteri Tun Mahathir, telah disampaikan oleh Menteri Pertahanan Malaysia, Yang Berhormat Haji Mohammad bin Sabu.

Brigedier Jeneral (Bersara) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar bin Haji Ma'awiah juga mengambil peluang untuk membuat mesyuarat dua hala dengan rakan sejawat beliau. Semasa mesyuarat-mesyuarat dua hala tersebut, Negara Brunei Darussalam menyatakan sokongan dan komitmen untuk meningkatkan hubungan pertahanan yang sedia ada. 

Sebahagian program forum tersebut, para delegasi akan membuat lawatan ke Gifu Works of Kawasaki Heavy Industry, yang mana merupakan salah satu pengeluar utama sistem pesawat dan angkasa di Jepun pada keesokan hari.
