OPERASI BADAI BERLALU 2004
With
the consent from His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di Pertuan of Brunei
Darussalam, the Royal Brunei Armed Forces was mandated to facilitate the
transportation and the delivery of the humanitarian aid to Aceh by
utilising the Royal Brunei Air Force assets. On 12th January 2005, 42
personnel from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces including military and
civilians, took off for the humanitarian aid mission to Aceh. The first
Royal Brunei Armed Forces delegation comprised of 35 military personnel
from the Royal Brunei Air Force and Support Service Armed Royal Brunei
Armed Forces as well as 8 civilian personnel from the Yayasan Sultan
Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Culture, Youth
and Sports. The delegation took off for Aceh from Rimba, Air Force Base
using 02 x Blackhawks and 01 x CN 235. The flight to Aceh was the first
ever long navigation operations conducted by the Royal Brunei Air
Force.
Medan
was selected as the Staging Base for the delivery and the distribution
of humanitarian aids and Sabang was designated as the Forward Operating
Base for the aircrafts and personnel. During the mission, the Blackhawk
aircraft was used for the transportation of personnel and goods whilst
the CN 235 aircraft was utilised for the delivery of humanitarian aids
from Medan to Saban.
