LIEUTENANT COLONEL (U) SCHUFIN BIN HAJI BRAHIM

Lieutenant Colonel (U) Schufin bin Haji Brahim, P.I.K.B, P.S.B, BEng (Hons), MPM, MIET is currently the Commanding Officer (CO) No.5 Wing (Maintenance) in the Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF) effective 22 Nov 2019.  He is a graduate from Loughborough University, United Kingdom (UK) with a Bachelors Degree (Honours) Mechanical Engineering in 1997.  He enlisted to serve the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) on 9 Feb 1998 and underwent his Basic Military Training at the RBAF Training Institute.  He was commissioned to the rank of Lieutenant (U) on 30 Dec 1999 after completing his Initial Officer Training at the Royal Air Force College (RAFC) Cranwell, UK.  He attended the Engineer Specialist Training (EST) at the Department of Specialist Ground Training (DSGT) in the RAFC Cranwell, UK and became a full-fledged Air Force Engineering Officer (EngO) on 13 Jul 2000.

Lieutenant Colonel (U) Schufin bin Haji Brahim has completed several staff and engineering command tours.  Initially, as Staff Officer Grade 3 (SO3) A4 in the RBAirF Headquarters in 2000, he proceeded the following years to complete EngO tours from the Bolkow BO105 Fleet in Engineering 2 Squadron (Eng 2 Sqn), now known as 52 Sqn from May 2001 to Jul 2003, Bell 212 and Bell 214ST Fleet in Eng 1 Sqn now known as 51 Sqn from Mar 2003 to Aug 2005, Bell 206 Jet Ranger and Pilatus PC7 Mk-II Fleet in Eng 3 Sqn now known as 573 Sqn from Aug 2005 to Oct 2007, Sikorsky's Blackhawk S70A-33 and CN235 Fleet in Eng 4 Sqn and Eng 5 Sqn now known as 54 Sqn and 55 Sqn respectively from Aug 2007 to Jun 2012.

He was also entrusted with additional appointments in Training Wing now known as No.7 Wing (Training) as the Education and Training Officer (ETO) in the Air Technical Training School (ATTS) now known as 75 Sqn from Aug 2005 to Aug 2006 and subsequently moving on as its Officer Commanding (OC) until Jan 2008. During this time in Dec 2007, he was also appointed as OC of Engineering Support Flight (now known as Engineering Support Sqn) and became the Senior Engineering Officer (SEngO) in Jul 2012. 

It was during this tenure in 2010, that he was granted to pursue his postgraduate studies as a Fellow at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore that included a semester of study at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University in the United States of America.  He graduated with a Master in Public Management (MPM) in 28 Feb 2011. 

On 6 Jan 2013, he was appointed as SO1 Maintenance in the Directorate of Logistics, Ministry of Defence, with the overall responsibility for the regulation of RBAF wide maintenance policies for its operational assets. Prior to his current post, he served as SO1 J4 in the Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) on 24 Mar 2016 with responsibility in the coordination of Joint Logistics Operations for the RBAF.

Lieutenant Colonel (U) Schufin bin Haji Brahim maintains an active membership with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) since 2009 and was the Honorary Chairman of its Local Network in Brunei Darussalam from 2017 to 2019. He has always enjoyed the spirit of adventure through travels and recreational sports and has earned the badge from the Basic Freefall Parachuting Course in the RBAirF earlier in his career.  Leisurely, he enjoys mountain biking.

He is the third child in a family of four siblings and is married to Hjh Zakirah binti Muhammad Fashih.  They are blessed with four children, three sons and one daughter who now take up most of his spare time.
