Maybe because he’s not a natural liar. and the answer to the question is actually “no, I haven’t gotten tested, and yes, I’ve had unprotected sex”. Of course he wouldn’t want to talk about that! And it’s his defensiveness that makes the talk and the question a difficult one for him. So he does what most people would do – he avoids the person as long as he can,

And when he does get in touch – his answers aren’t straightforward. He doesn’t even tell her what she needs to know – his response is evasive, defensive and dismissive. I suspect (but I know it’s only supposition) that this guy has had sex without a condom with others since they’ve slept together, but doesn’t want to admit it to her.
