Sure, an “open” relationship doesn’t necessarily mean that each partner gets a report of what the other is doing and when. But it *does* seem to imply that partners use condoms for the duration of the relationship, no matter how long.
I don’t feel that I own my partner, so whatever he does is his right to do, as long as he’s honest with me. I don’t particularly value monogamy for it’s own sake. However, to feel that as long as we’re together we can never have sex without a condom, or else risk getting a life-changing illness, is definitely a dealbreaker.
