RBAirF RESPONSE TO THE COVID-19 BATTLE – AIRMEN FACILITATE SWABBING DUTIES AT CIC PKBN

Bandar Seri Begawan, Friday, 5 November 2021 - In support of the Ministry of Health's efforts to combat the COVID-19 Pandemic, RBAirF has deployed hundreds of personnel in varying roles. This week's article features Sld (U) Md Waie bin Mazlan from No. 3 Wing as one of the swabbers at Community Isolation Centre (CIC) PKBN, Temburong.

To ramp up the daily testing and meet the national demand for swabbing, Sld (U) Md Waie has regularly been conducting the swab test to the patients at CIC PKBN since September 2021. Thousands of swabs have been collected to date and these swabbing tests range from patients and frontline workers. The aim is to collect samples of those with the COVID-19 infection and prevent the spreading of the disease. There is no denying that he feels anxious about safety, especially having to return to his family after dealing at a high-risk area with COVID-19 patients. However, the upside of holding this role is that they get an unforgettable experience working with the medical staff of the Ministry of Health. "Despite the anxious feeling, we must gather our support during this Pandemic and endure it with Tawakkal besides obeying the SOP", said Sld (U) Md Waie.

Swab tests can be uncomfortable in general. Not only did they learn how to conduct the swabbing, but they were also taught ways to treat the patients without any pain induced, such as always assuring and comforting the patients for a smooth process. Moreover, as a swabber himself, he is also required to perform the surveillance swab and routine sanitisation after his duty to ensure safety prior reaching home.
