RBAF HANDS OVER 'TITIAN AMAL' PROJECT

Kg Bengkurong, Wednesday, 20 September 2006 - A handing-over ceremony of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) communal work 'Titian Amal' house key project was held this morning. It was presented to the house owner, Awang Samrin bin Haji Timbang at No. 5, Simpang 169, Jalan Bengkurong, Kg. Bengkurong. This community project was implemented by the RBAF personnel with cooperation from the Department of Community Development (JAPEM), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport. Among other objectives of this community project is to assist village community throughout the country in providing facilities to be shared by the society such as manpower, machinery and skills to which that can help in reducing the burden of less fortunate individuals as well as the rest of the general public particularly in the infrastructural aspect so on and so forth.

This 'Titian Amal' project is an annual activity to commemorate the RBAF 45th Anniversary celebration held recently this year. The construction works which started on 9th June 2006 was completed on 8th August 2006. The construction of this project was undertaken together by personnel from the Combat Engineering Squadron, Support Battalion of the Royal Brunei Land Force and also a local contractor, Awang Ali Omar bin Bolhassan who donated building materials for this project. Where as other facilities for this house was generously donated by other individuals to reduce the burden of Awang Samrin's family. The building area of this house project is about 1,080 square feet which has 3 bedrooms, a living room, a bathroom and a kitchen.

The ceremony was officiated by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Mejar General (Retired) Dato Seri Pahlawan Awang Haji Mohammad bin Haji Daud who received the house key from the Commander of RBAF, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Md Yussof. Also present at the ceremony were the Permanent Secretary of Culture, Youth and Sports, Service Commanders and Commandants, Directors, Senior Officers of RBAF, Ministries and various agencies who are involved in the communal work including the Chief Headman and Village Headman of Kampong Bengkurong.

Awang Samrin has 7 children of which 3 of them are still studying. He was a former RBAF employee, then a security guard at the Jerudong Prison (retired upon completion of 5 years contract) and until now he is still unable to secure a permanent job.
