Bandar Seri Begawan, Wednesday 18 Oct 2006 -The Bolkiah Garison held a Khatam al-Quran ceremony this afternoon to mark the completion of the nightly 'tedarus'. The ceremony was held at the Bolkiah Garison Surau.

Guest of Honour at the event was the Deputy Minister of Defence,
Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar. Also present were the Permanent Secretary of Defence, Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Hj Md Yussof, Deputy Permanent Secretaries of Defence, Service Commanders and Commandants, Senior Officers, Officers and personnel of the Ministry of Defence and RBAF.

The event commenced with the recitation of 'surah' from the al-Quran and recitation of the 'Dzikir Marhabban and 'Takhtim' and the 'Doa Khatam' led by Ustaz Awang Haji Ruslan bin Haji Sulaiman, Senior Religious Officer at the Ministry of Defence. During the dzikir also saw the Deputy Minister presenting the 'bunga telor' to participants of the Khatam al-Quran. The ceremony proceeded with the 'bersungkai' or breaking of fast event followed by a mass Maghrib prayers. The event later concluded with the mass Isya' prayers, Terawih and Witir prayers.

This religious event is an annual activity organised by both the civilian and military. This year's event were co-organised by the Directorate of Administration and Manpower, and Support Services Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
