RBAF HOSTED THE KIWI'S OFFICER CADET TRAINING

Thursday, 17 August 2006 - As part of the Bilateral Defence Cooperation between the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and the New Zealand Armed Forces , 46 New Zealand Officer Cadets including 6 other Internationals and 1 Bruneian Officer Cadet are currently undergoing their 3 weeks Leadership Training in the jungle of Temburong. The NZ Officer Cadets together with their supporting administrative staffs have been in the Sultanate since 1 August 2006.

Throughout this training deployment, the NZ officer Cadets will be exercising their warfare knowledge at platoon level and exposed to closes terrain tactics. This jungle warfare module is also design to provide a true equatorial jungle life experience for the Officer Cadets.

The NZ Officer Cadets training package in Brunei was also coordinated with the Royal Brunei Land Forces and the Training Institute RBAF. This has been the third consecutive year such training being conducted in Brunei.

Some of the significant highlights of the training was the visit by the NZ Chief of Army, Major General L.J Gardiner on 12 August 2006. This was later followed by the visit of the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Dato Lalilaraja Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Md Yussof on the 15 August 2006.

The Kiwis will be departing Brunei on the 25 August 2006.
