MUARA COMMERCIAL WHARF, Sunday, 8 March 2020 – Officers from the Royal Brunei Air Force had the privilege of having a tour of the first submarine to ever dock in Negara Brunei Darussalam, the Australian Collins Class Submarine HMAS Dechaineux. The submarine is expected to dock in the country from 7 to 9 March 2020.
Upon arriving at the Muara Commerical Wharf, the Royal Brunei Air Force officers were greeted by Lieutenant Jedd Goggin, a Communication Officer of HMAS Dechaineux, of the Royal Australian Navy. The tour started with Lieutenant Goggin giving some welcoming remarks and a brief history of the submarine. The submarine was named in the memory of Captain Emile Dechaineux and was launched in 2001.
Lieutenant Goggin further described on the overview of the submarine capabilities and certain specifications. Furthermore, explaining on the HMAS Dechaineux’s general layout structure and distinctive traits of the unique diesel and battery-fuelled hybrid submarine, such as the efficient weapons handling compartment and highly automated control room. Moreover, providing an insightful size comparison of the submarine to the passenger airliner, Airbus A380.
The tour continued with the officers boarding HMAS Dechaineux and visiting the upper part of the submarine, Senior Sailors Mess and Control Room. Then the lower part of the submarine, Weapon Storage Compartment; Junior Sailors Mess; Motor Generator Room; and Machinery Control Room.
The tour ended with a group photo session of the Royal Brunei Air Force officers.

DERMAGA KOMERSIAL MUARA, Ahad, 8 Mac 2020 – Pegawai-pegawai dari Tentera Udara Diraja Brunei telah diberikan peluang untuk melawat Kapal Selam Australian Collins Class HMAS Dechaineux, yang merupakan kapal selam pertama yang berlabuh di Negara Brunei Darussalam. HMAS Dechaineux dijangka berlabuh di negara ini dari 7 hingga 9 Mac 2020.
Sejurus tiba di Dermaga Komersial Muara, Pegawai-pegawai Tentera Udara Diraja Brunei disambut oleh Leftenan Jedd Goggin, Pegawai Perhubungan HMAS Dechaineux,
Royal Australian Navy. Lawatan bermula dengan Leftenan Goggin memberikan ucapan selamat datang dan sejarah singkat mengenai HMAS Dechaineux. Kapal selam ini dinamakan sempena Kapten Emile Dechaineux, seorang pegawai yang berkhidmat semasa Perang Dunia ke-2. HMAS Dechaineux telah ditauliahkan untuk beroperasi pada tahun 2001.
Leftenan Goggin selanjutnya menerangkan tentang keupayaan HMAS Dechaineux dan spesifikasinya yang tertentu. Seterusnya beliau juga menerangkan tentang struktur HMAS Dechaineux dan juga beberapa ciri-ciri dan kebolehan kapal selam
hybrid ini yang berasaskan diesel dan bateri termasuk
highly automated control room dan
efficient weapons handling compartment. Selain itu, beliau memberikan gambaran perbandingan saiz kapal selam kepada pesawat penumpang, Airbus A380.
Lawatan diteruskan dengan Pegawai-pegawai Tentera Udara Diraja Brunei menaiki HMAS Dechaineux dan melawat bahagian atas kapal selam, Mes Pelaut Kanan dan Bilik Kawalan. Kemudian bahagian bawah kapal selam, ruang penyimpanan senjata; Mes Pelaut Rendah;
Motor Generator Room; dan
Machinery Control Room.
Lawatan itu berakhir dengan sesi bergambar ramai Pegawai-pegawai TUDB.
