Lieutenant Colonel (U) Mohammad Irwan bin Yahya joined the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) in July 1996 and was later commissioned in July 1997 after completing the Initial Officer Training at the Royal Air Force (RAF) Cranwell in UK.  He then underwent his basic flying training on the Pilatus PC-7 Mk II and also Bell 206 Jet Ranger.

On completion of his flying training in 2000, he joined the No. 4 Sqn, Ops Wing in the RBAirF as a qualified pilot. Prior to holding his current post as a Commanding Officer of No. 3 Wing commencing on the 22 July 2016, he has held various posts such as Staff Officer Grade 3 Operations, Staff Officer Grade 2 Intelligence and Security, Staff Officer Grade 2 Intelligence and Security in the Joint Force Headquarters, Officer Commanding of No. 12 Sqn and lastly Staff Officer Grade 2 Operations in the Royal Brunei Air Force Headquarters.

He did his Junior Staff Course and his Command & Staff Course in 2006 and 2015 respectively. He also took up the opportunity to take up Master of International Security from Massey University, New Zealand in 2016. Amongst other courses he had attended include the Defense Intelligence Research and Analysis course in Australia, Flight Safety Course in Malaysia and Incident Command and Control course in Singapore. He also drew path on taking up courses such as Basic Freefall Parachuting, Basic Airborne course and also the Oil Spill Response Level 2 Course.

Throughout his career, he was involved in several Search and Rescue operations which include the Hornbill Skyways Bell206 helicopter in Bario, Sarawak in 2004 and the University students who went missing in Tawau, Sabah in 2013.

He is married to a naval officer Pg Norkumilasari binti Pg Hj Azahari and they have four sons and a daughter; Ameer Darwysh (2006), Ameer Danysh (2007), Ameer Daeem (2010), Ameerah Batrisyha (2012) and Ameer Daniyal (2016). Irwan enjoys keeping a good healthy life style with his family and enjoys playing badminton and golf as part of his leisure time.
