Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Majid bin Mangarshah, DPMB, PKB, PKL was born on 16 September 1957 in Negara Brunei Darussalam. He graduated in 1983 from the United Kingdom and in the year 2000 he obtained a Diploma in Strategic and Security Studies, at the Australian Defence College.
Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Majid began his career with the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam as an Education Officer at the Ministry of Education. The following year, in 1984, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a Diplomatic Officer. In 1991, he was posted London as a Second Secretary at the Brunei Darussalam High Commission.
On returning home in 1994, Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Majid joined the Internal Security Department, under the Prime Minister’s Office.
From there, in 2002 Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Majid then joined the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports as the Special Duties Officer. In 2003, he moved to the Ministry of Defence assuming the post of Director of Politics and Organization. In this new posting, he was involved in the formulation of the Defence White Paper 2004 and the Defence Strategic Plan 2004 which guides Brunei Darussalam’s defence planning till today. From there, Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Majid’s career saw another shift, returning to the Prime Minister’s Office but in his capacity as the Director of the Narcotics Control Bureau.
On 17 July 2007, Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Majid was conferred The Most Honourable Order of Seri Paduka Mahkota Brunei, Second Class which carries the title “Dato Paduka”.
On the 17 January 2008, with the consent of His Majesty the Sultan & Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Majid was promoted to the appointment as the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence.
Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Majid is married to Datin Hajah Norain binti Haji Hanafi and they are blessed with 4 children.
