His Majesty first attended military academy on 4th January 1966 at Sandhurst Royal Military Academy, United Kingdom as a Cadet Officer. While at Sandhurst, he centred his interest on technological development, strategy and military arts. His Majesty's education has enabled him to develop his natural abilities as a military leader and at the same time, equipped His Majesty as a monarch with a vision to preserve the country's independence and became internationally recognised. Nevertheless, His Majesty has demonstrated his responsibilities and wisdom in administering and ruling Brunei Darussalam and thus has earned recognition from United Kingdom:
- Honorary Field Marshall at the Sandhurst Royal Military Academy, United Kingdom on 10 August 1986
- Honorary Air Chief Marshall of The Royal Air Force at The Royal Air Force College in Cranwell, United Kingdom in November 1992.
- Admiral of The Royal Navy at the Britannia Royal Navy College at Dartsmouth, United Kingdom on 2 August 2001.
