Colonel (L) Haji Abdul Halim bin Haji Mohd Hanifah was born on 24 Jan 1965. He enlisted to the Royal Brunei Armed Force on 24 July 1982 (RBAF) and upon graduation was enrolled to the Royal Brunei Navy as an officer cadet in 1983. He was promoted to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in 1985 after successfully attending courses in Britannia Royal Naval College. In 1987, he was promoted to a full Lieutenant. In 1990, Colonel Haji Abd Halim was promoted to the rank of a Captain and was further appointed to a Major four years later. Some of his first early appointments included Navigation officer, executive officer on KDB Pejuang, a flotilla navigating officer and training officer. During his early services with Royal Brunei Navy, Colonel Halim also held the post as a commanding officer of the missile gun boat KDB Seteria.

For his professional development, Colonel (L) Haji Abdul Halim had attended several military related courses overseas. Some of these courses include Intern Midshipman Course, service fund accounting course, maritime surveillance course, intern long navigation course and Advance command. As a result of his hard work and diligent services, Colonel (L) Abdul Halim was recommended to undergo military staff course in National Defence University in Islamabad. Despite his demanding work commitment, Colonel (L) Haji Abdul Halim still managed to earn two master degrees during the duration of his services. His postgraduate degrees were achieved in Master of Art in Defence Studies and Master of Science in Strategic Studies.

In 2004, Colonel (L) Haji Abdul Halim was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and in 2007, he was promoted to a full Colonel. In 2008 by consent of His Majesty, Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mui’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Minister of Defence, Colonel (L) Haji Abdul Halim was appointed as the Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy.

For his excellent services, Colonel (L) Haji Abdul Halim has received a number of decorations which include decorations of the country stripes such as Darjah Seri Paduka Mahkota Brunei Yang Amat Mulia Darjah Ketiga (SMB), General Service Medal (GSM), PJP KDYMM and Jubli Perak.

Colonel (L) Haji Abdul Halim is also an enthusiastic and keen sport man. He is especially active in football and golf. In domestic perspective, Colonel (L) Abdul Halim is a strong advocate in strengthening family relationship. This is reflected in his own marital bless with his lovely wife, Dyg Hajah Umiyati Bte Haji Mohd Noor, with whom he has four children.
