DEFENCE POLICY

DDP MISSION
- Shaping and Strengthening Defence Policy

DDP ROLES
-  Formulate and Review defence policy
-  Facilitate bilateral defence cooperation
-  Facilitate regional and multilateral defence and security cooperation
-  Secretariat of the National Committee for Chemical Weapons Convention (NCCWC)
-  Provide legal or quasi legal advice
-  Support RBAF on non-operational defence matters

ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE

The Directorate of Defence Policy is under the responsibility of the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy & Development). The directorate is headed by a Director and assisted by an Assistant Director.

The Directorate has three sections namely Administration, Legal and Research section. The Administration section of the Directorate is looked after by the Assistant Director, while the Research section is headed by two Senior Research Officers who are assisted by four research officers. The Legal Section is headed by a Senior Legal Officer and assisted by a Legal Officer.

Administrative Section

- To oversee matters relating to the administrative work of the directorate;
- To address the Directorate’s needs such as delivery of correspondence to other departments outside the Directorate;
- To store, disseminate and coordinate files for action and attention from time to time.

Legal Section

-  To act as an advisory on legal matters concerning the Ministry of Defence;
- To oversee and analyse documents concerning legal matters including MOUs, agreement contracts, conventions, treaties and other legal documents;
- To produce working papers/views with legal implications on the Ministry of Defence
- To act as the coordinator and contact point to the Attorney General Chambers on matters pertaining to the Ministry of Defence legal requirements.

                 
Research Section

- To execute tasks relating to defence policy & security issues;
- To prepare & produce policy papers and briefs on matters pertaining to relations, defence and security issues;
- To carry out research work on matters required relating to the functions of the Ministry of Defence;
- To prepare for and attend meetings, conferences, and others either locally or abroad on matters pertaining to defence policy, security and disarmament.
