RBAF And SAF Interaction Programme

27b-8front.jpgBolkiah Garrison, Thursday 28 August 2008 – Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) welcomes Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) in the Junior Interaction Programme (JIP) commencing 25 August until 28 August 2008.

The SAF 30 member delegation, headed by Lieutenant Colonel Lim Yong Liang, arrived in Brunei Darussalam on 25 August 2008. Welcoming the delegation was Lieutenant Colonel Hj Abd Aziz bin Hj Abd Rahman as head of the RBAF delegation. 

The objectives of the program are to foster closer and enhance relations as well as deepen understandings between the junior officers from both armed forces. 

Starting the Interaction Program was an orientation event and a Security briefing. The SAF delegation also heard a briefing on Brunei’s country profile, organizational structure of the Ministry of Defence and the RBAF, which was held at the Bolkiah Executive Centre, Bolkiah Garison. 

Several events and visits were also planned for the JIP which among others aimed to provide insights for the SAF delegation on the traditions, the economy and living culture of the local people in general and RBAF in particular.

Other travel visits also included to the University Brunei Darussalam, Brunei Economic Development Building i-centre, Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Royal Regalia, RBAF Counselling Centre, Brunei Museum, Penghulu Mukim Tamoi Residence, Oil and Gas Discovery Centre and Lumut Camp Sports Complex for the friendly soccer and netball event.

RBAF Swimming and Water Polo Finals

27a-8front.jpgRoyal Brunei Navy, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 – The Royal Brunei Armed Forces Swimming and Water Polo competition came to a close with the closing ceremony today at the Royal Brunei Navy swimming pool complex. 

The Guest of Honour was the Acting Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Brigadier General (U) Dato Paduka Hj Mahmud Bin Hj Saidin. Also present were Services Commanders and Commandants, Directors and personnel of RBAF. 

The competition saw participation by the Royal Brunei Land Force, Royal Brunei Navy, Royal Brunei Air Force, Support Service RBAF, Training Institute RBAF and Special Forces Regiment. Also participating in the competition were the Royal Brunei Police and Youth and Sports Department. 

The day witnessed water polo final between Royal Brunei Land Force and Royal Brunei Navy and also the finals for two swimming events; 4 X 50 metres Chain-of-command; and 4 X 50 metres Invitation.  Royal Brunei Navy emerged champion in the water polo event after beating Royal Brunei Land Force 2-1. Royal Brunei Navy collected a total of 6 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze to emerge as the overall champion in swimming event.  

To mark the end of the competition, the Guest of Honour was invited to give away prizes to the winners.  Swimming and Water Polo competition is one of the sporting events conducted annually, it is aimed to talent-scout for new potential to represent the Armed Forces and also to foster brotherhood spirit amongst personnel of all ranks within the service.

RBAF Welcomes SESKO TNI

27-8front.jpgBandar Seri Begawan, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 – The Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) played host to a delegation from the Command and Staff College, Republic of Indonesian Armed Forces (SESKO TNI) who were on a three-day study and working visit to the Sultanate commencing 24th August until 27th August 2008.

The forty-six member delegation, which included 7 trainers, was led by Marsma TNI Petrus Canisius Margono. The visit among others aimed to gain further understanding on the defence of countries in the Asia-Pacific region in general, and more specifically in Brunei Darussalam. The visit was also intended to gather information on the development of the country and on its defence. 

Beginning the visit itinerary, Sesko TNI delegation was briefed on the Defence White Paper and the organisational structure of the RBAF at the Officers’ Mess Bolkiah Garrison. During the visit to the Garrison, the head of the delegation had the opportunity to call upon the Commander of RBAF, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Md Yussof. Also present during the call were the Deputy Commander of the Royal Brunei Air Force, Colonel (U) Jofri bin Haji Abdullah, Defence Attache of the Republic of Indonesia as well as senior officers of SESKO TNI. 

During the delegation’s stay in Brunei Darussalam, they visited several places of interest including the Royal Regalia Building, the Water Village, and OGDC centre to explore and discover the cultures and traditions of Brunei Darussalam.
