Defence Policy
OVERVIEW OF DIRECTORATE OF DEFENCE POLICY
The Directorate of Defence Policy was formed in 1985. Formerly, it was known as the Directorate of Politics and Organization where it encompassed four main sections namely the Legal Section, Public Relations Section, Research Section and Administration section. In light of the expanding roles of the Directorate, , a decision was made to change the name to the Directorate of Defence Policy in 2004, in the aim for it to be more focused in its roles and to act as a centralised player/coordinator pertaining to defence policy matters for the Ministry of Defence. In the year 2002, the Public Relations section was transformed into a unit and transferred to Office of Permanent Secretary. The same apply to Legal section in 2008.
Under the current structure, the Directorate has two sections namely Administration and Research section. Currently, DDP is manned by seven officers and ten staff members. The Directorate of Defence Policy is placed under the responsibility of the Permanent Secretary II (Policy & Development). The Directorate is headed by a Director and assisted by an Assistant Director.
The vision and mission of the Directorate is aligned to Ministry of Defence’s Mission and Vision. Among the main roles of the Directorate is to promote and enhance defence diplomacy in various level; internationally (UN), regionally (ASEAN and ASEAN Regional Forum) and bilaterally (with friendly countries).

PENGENALAN DAN SEJARAH JABATANARAH DASAR PERTAHANAN
Jabatanarah Dasar Pertahanan yang dahulunya dikenali sebagai Jabatan Politik dan Organisasi telah ditubuhkan sejak 1985. Jabatanarah ini pada mulanya mempunyai 4 bahagian iaitu Hal Ehwal Undang-Undang, Perhubungan Awam, Kaji Selidik dan Pentadbiran. Pada tahun 2004, nama Jabatan Politik & Organisasi diubah kepada Jabatanarah Dasar Pertahanan selaras dengan misi dan peranan Jabatanarah yang kian berkembang. Bahagian Perhubungan Awam dan Bahagian Hal Ehwal Undang-Undang telah bertukar kepada 2 buah unit yang diserapkan ke dalam Pejabat Urusetia SUT dan kini Jabatanarah Dasar Pertahanan mempunyai 2 bahagian iaitu Pentadbiran dan Penyelidikan. Pada masa ini, Jabatanarah Dasar Pertahanan mempunyai anggota seramai tujuh orang pegawai dan sepuluh orang kakitangan.
Visi dan misi Jabatanarah ini diselaraskan dengan visi Kementerian Pertahanan. Manakala ada beberapa peranan Jabatanarah Dasar Pertahanan di mana salah satu daripada peranan utamanya adalah mempertingkatkan usaha-usaha berkaitan dengan Diplomasi Pertahanan ataupun ‘Defence Diplomacy’ di pelbagai peringkat, termasuk di peringkat antarabangsa (Pertubuhan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu), rantau (ASEAN dan ASEAN Regional Forum), dan dua-hala (dengan negara-negara sahabat).
