Introduction

The Training Institute Royal Brunei Armed Forces has been one of the major units of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces since it was re-established in 1991. It is based at Penanjong Garrison which is situated in Tutong District. The training institute is also known as the Military Training Institution, where all the basic military training is introduced to new recruits both men and women. Other military courses are also offered and conducted in this institution to upgrade individual military skills and knowledge, such courses are for officers and non-commissioned officers.

In order to achieve its aim and objectives, the Training Institute divides responsibility between several sub units to support the courses conducted. This is an important factor in fulfilling the duties given by the Ministry of Defence. To date, the Training Institute of Royal Brunei Armed Forces has continued to move forward in fulfilling its mission statement.

The Training Institute is under the command of a senior officer who holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and who is known as Commandant of the Training Institute of Royal Brunei Armed Forces.

Each year, several major events are held at the Training Institute, such as passing out parades for recruits, shooting competitions, inter-unit sports, religious events and visits from schools.
