​13th ASEAN DEFENCE MINISTERS’ MEETING CONCLUDES ON A HIGH NOTE

THAILAND, Thursday, 11 July 2019 - The 13th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) concluded on an excellent note in Bangkok, Kingdom of Thailand today. General Prawit Wongsuwon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, Kingdom of Thailand, chaired the meeting in his capacity as Thailand’s ADMM Leader.

Representing the Ministry of Defence of Brunei Darussalam was Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Retired) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd. Yussof, Second Minister of Defence. Also present in the delegation were Brigadier General (Retired) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar bin Haji Ma’awiah, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of  Defence, in his capacity as Brunei Darussalam ASEAN Defence Senior Officials’ Meeting (ADSOM) Leader, and Haji Adi Ihram bin Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud, Director of Defence Policy, in his capacity as Brunei Darussalam ASEAN Defence Senior Officials’ Working Group Meeting (ADSOM-WG) Leader.

The meeting also successfully adopted the Expansion of ASEAN Direct Communications Infrastructure (ADI) Phase 1 to Plus Countries, which is spearheaded by Brunei Darussalam earlier this year.

The 13th ADMM is a culmination of all the consolidated efforts from earlier ADSOM-WG and ADSOM, all of which deliberated on several new ADMM initiatives as well as progress of ongoing and existing initiatives within ADMM. The Meeting was also briefed on the recent developments in ASEAN, as well as the outcomes of the 16th ASEAN Chiefs of Defence Forces Meeting (ACDFM), notably the formalisation of the ASEAN Military Operators Meeting (AMOM) and the ASEAN Military Intelligence Meeting (AMIM). The ASEAN Defence Ministers also signed a Joint Declaration on Sustainable Security.

Prior to the convening of the 13th ADMM, the Second Minister of Defence joined other ASEAN Defence Ministers for a joint courtesy call on His Excellency General Prayut Chan-o-cha (Retired), Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand in the morning. The Second Minister of Defence also had a bilateral meeting with General Prawit Wongsuwon, at the sidelines of the meeting. The ASEAN Defence Ministers will also be feted with a Gala Dinner on the occasion of the 13th ADMM.

Pursuant to Thailand’s capacity as ADMM chair, Thailand will also be chairing the 6th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) as well as the ADMM Retreat in November 2019.

Menteri Pertahanan Kedua Negara Brunei Darussalam diiringi oleh Tuan Yang Terutama Haji Ismail bin Haji Abdul Manap, Duta Besar Negara Brunei Darussalam ke Thailand; Setiausaha Tetap Kementerian Pertahanan dan delegasi.


MESYUARAT MENTERI-MENTERI PERTAHANAN ASEAN KE-13 DILAKSANAKAN DENGAN JAYA

THAILAND, Khamis, 11 Julai 2019 – Mesyuarat Menteri-Menteri Pertahanan ASEAN (ADMM) ke-13 telah dilaksanakan dengan jayanya di Hotel Shangri-La Bangkok, Thailand pada pagi tadi. Mesyuarat ADMM pada tahun ini dipengerusikan oleh Jeneral Prawit Wongsuwon, Timbalan Perdana Menteri dan Menteri Pertahanan Kerajaan Thailand.

Mewakili Kementerian Pertahanan Negara Brunei Darussalam ke ADMM ialah Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Mejar Jeneral (Bersara) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd. Yussof, Menteri Pertahanan Kedua. Turut serta bagi mesyuarat ini ialah Brigedier Jeneral (Bersara) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar bin Haji Ma'awiah, Setiausaha Tetap Kementerian Pertahanan, selaku ketua ADSOM Negara Brunei Darussalam, dan Haji Adi Ihram bin Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud, Pengarah Dasar Pertahanan selaku ketua ADSOM-WG Negara Brunei Darussalam.

Mesyuarat kali ini juga telah mengesahkan pengembangan fasa pertama ASEAN Direct Communications Infrastructure (ADI) yang telah diterajui oleh Negara Brunei Darussalam.

Mesyuarat ADMM ini adalah mesyuarat kemuncak berikutan dari mesyuarat peringkat kerja ADSOM-WG dan ADSOM. ADMM juga telah menerima pakai inisiatif-inisiatif ADMM yang baru dan menerima laporan mengenai perkembangan dalam platform ASEAN, mesyuarat ASEAN Chiefs of Defence Forces Meeting (ACDFM), serta maklumat terkini mengenai kemajuan kerjasama pertahanan ASEAN yang sedia ada. Menteri-Menteri Pertahanan ASEAN juga telah menandatangan Deklarasi Bersama mengenai Sustainable Security.

Sebelum mesyuarat ADMM ke-13 bermula di sebelah pagi, Yang Berhormat Menteri Pertahanan Kedua beserta Menteri-Menteri Pertahanan ASEAN telah membuat satu kunjungan hormat bersama kepada Tuan Yang Terutama Jeneral Prayut Chan-o-cha (Bersara), Perdana Menteri Kerajaan Thailand. Yang Berhormat Menteri Pertahanan Kedua juga berpeluang mengadakan perjumpaan dua hala bersama Jeneral Prawit Wongsuwan sewaktu Mesyuarat ADMM berjalan. Satu Majlis Makan Malam sempena ADMM ke-13 juga diadakan bagi Menteri-Menteri Pertahanan ASEAN.

Selaku pengerusi ADMM pada tahun 2019, Thailand juga akan mempengerusikan mesyuarat ADMM-Plus ke-6 pada bulan November 2019 ini, beserta dengan ADMM Retreat.
