MINISTER OF DEFENCE II ATTENDS ADMM RETREAT IN SINGAPORE

SINGAPORE, Tuesday 6 February 2018 – The ASEAN Defence Ministers are currently in Singapore to attend the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) Retreat. The retreat was hosted by Dr. Ng Eng Hen, Minister for Defence of Singapore, as the current chair of the ADMM and ADMM-Plus this year.

The Retreat was also held concurrently with the Singapore Airshow 2018, which was officially opened by Dr. Ng Eng Hen and Mr Khaw Boon Wan, Co-ordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Minister for Transport. As part of the programme, the ASEAN Defence Ministers also jointly called on the Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong.

During the ADMM Retreat, the ASEAN Defence Ministers exchanged views on the regional security issues during a breakfast session. A plenary session was then conducted in the afternoon which focused solely on the theme of Counter Terrorism. The Ministers then adopted the Joint Statement of the ASEAN Defence Ministers on Countering Terrorism in ASEAN after the afternoon session, signifying their resolution to stepping up practical cooperation in response to the rise of terrorism in the region.

The ASEAN Defence Ministers also met with General Chang Wanquan, Minister of National Defence of the People’s Republic of China for the 8th ASEAN-China Informal Meeting.

Representing His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in his capacity as the Minister of Defence was Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Retired) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Defence II.

At the sidelines of the retreat, the Minister of Defence II had the opportunity to conduct bilateral meetings with counterparts from the host Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Lao PDR.





MENTERI PERTAHANAN II HADIRI ADMM RETREAT DI SINGAPURA

SINGAPURA, Selasa 6 February 2018 – Menteri-Menteri Pertahanan ASEAN kini berada di Singapura untuk menghadiri Mesyuarat Retreat Menteri-Menteri Pertahanan ASEAN (ADMM Retreat). Mesyuarat Retreat ini dihoskan oleh Dr Ng Eng Hen, Menteri Pertahanan Singapura, sebagai pengerusi ADMM dan ADMM-Plus pada tahun ini.

Mesyuarat Retreat diadakan sekaligus dengan Singapore Airshow 2018, yang dibuka secara rasmi oleh Dr. Ng Eng Hen dan Mr. Khaw Boon Wan, Menteri Penyelaras bagi Prasarana dan Menteri Pengangkutan. Sebagai sebahagian daripada program tersebut, Menteri-Menteri Pertahanan ASEAN juga membuat kunjungan hormat kepada Perdana Menteri Singapura Lee Hsien Loong.

Semasa Mesyuarat ADMM Retreat, Menteri Pertahanan ASEAN bertukar pandangan mengenai isu-isu keselamatan serantau semasa sesi sarapan pagi. Sesi plenari kemudiannya yang dijalankan pada sebelah petang memfokuskan semata-mata atas tema anti keganasan. Satu Kenyataan Bersama Menteri-Menteri Pertahanan ASEAN mengenai Penentangan Keganasan di ASEAN telah dikeluarkan selepas sesi petang, menandakan resolusi mereka untuk meningkatkan kerjasama praktikal dalam menangani kebangkitan keganasan di rantau ini.

Para Menteri Pertahanan ASEAN juga bertemu dengan Jeneral Chang Wanquan, Menteri Pertahanan Nasional Republik Rakyat China dalam Mesyuarat Tidak Rasmi Menteri-Menteri Pertahanan ASEAN-China yang ke-8.

Mewakili Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam dalam kapasiti sebagai Menteri Pertahanan ialah Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Mejar Jeneral (B) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Menteri Pertahanan II.

Di samping itu, Menteri Pertahanan II berpeluang untuk mengadakan mesyuarat dua hala dengan rakan-rakan dari negara hos Singapura, Malaysia, Indonesia dan Lao PDR.
