6th BRUNEI DARUSSALAM - SINGAPORE DEFENCE POLICY DIALOGUE

SINGAPORE, Thursday, 2 November 2017 –The 6th Defence Policy Dialogue between Brunei Darussalam and Republic of Singapore took place yesterday at Temasek Club.

The dialogue was co-chaired by Captain (Retired) Dato Paduka Abd Rahman Bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, RBN, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence of Brunei Darussalam and His Excellency Chan Yeng Kit, Permanent Secretary (Defence), Ministry of Defence, Singapore.

The two co-chairs reaffirmed the special and long-standing bilateral defence ties between Brunei Darussalam and Singapore. Both co-chairs shared views on a wide range of regional security issues and reiterated their commitment in furthering bilateral defence cooperation. Both co-chairs also discussed cooperation within the ADMM platform as Singapore is set to assume chairmanship in the next year.

Captain (Retired) Dato Paduka Abd Rahman also paid a courtesy call to Dr. Ng Eng Hen, Minister for Defence of Singapore this morning. In the call, both sides expressed satisfaction on the excellent relationship between Brunei Darussalam and Singapore, and looked forward to more collaborative defence and military activities between the two countries.

As part of this visit, Captain (Retired) Dato Paduka Abd Rahman and delegation also visited Changi Naval Base.

The Brunei delegation for the dialogue also included Colonel Haji Abdul Hadi bin Haji Saim, Chief of Staff of the RBAF; Haji Adi Ihram bin Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud, Acting Director of Defence Policy; Lieutenant Colonel (U) Abu Husin bin Sahat, Brunei Darussalam Defence Adviser to Singapore and an officer from the Directorate of Defence Policy.

Initiated in 2009, the Defence Policy Dialogue between Brunei Darussalam and Republic of Singapore serves as a regular forum for both countries to oversee the progress of the bilateral defence relationship, as well as explore new areas of defence cooperation. The DPD also gives an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on security issues of mutual interest.




DIALOG DASAR PERTAHANAN KE 6 DIANTARA NEGARA BRUNEI DARUSSALAM DAN REPUBLIK SINGAPURA

SINGAPURA, Khamis, 2 November 2017 – Dialog Dasar Pertahanan antara Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Republik Singapura kali ke 6 telah berlangsung kelmarin di Temasek Club.

Dialog tersebut dipengerusi bersama diantara Kepten (B) Dato Paduka Abd Rahman bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, TLDB, Setiausaha Tetap, Kementerian Pertahanan dan Chan Yeng Kit, Setiausaha Tetap (Pertahanan), Kementerian Pertahanan, Singapura. Dialog tersebut juga dihadiri oleh pegawai-pegawai tentera dan awam dari kedua-dua negara.

Kedua pengerusi berpuas hati atas hubungan dua hala diantara Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Singapura yang baik dan telah terjalin sejak sekian lama. Kedua belah pihak telah membincangkan hal-ehwal keselamatan di rantau ini dan juga menyatakan komitmen dalam memperkukuhkan kerjasama dua-hala. Kedua-dua pihak turut membincangkan kerjasama di landasan ADMM, memandangkan Singapura akan menjadi pengerusi bagi ADMM pada tahun depan.

Kepten (B) Dato Paduka Abd Rahman juga telah mengadakan kunjungan hormat kepada Dr. Ng Eng Hen, Menteri Pertahanan Singapura pada pagi ini. Dalam kunjungan hormat tersebut, kedua belah pihak menyatakan kepuasan terhadap hubungan baik diantara Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Singapura, dan mengalu-alukan aktiviti kerjasama pertahanan dan tentera di antara kedua negara.

Pada kali ini, Kepten (B) Dato Paduka Abd Rahman juga mengadakan lawatan ke Pangkalan Laut Changi.

Rombongan Negara Brunei Darussalam yang menyertai dialog tersebut adalah Kolonel Haji Abdul Hadi bin Haji Saim, Ketua Staf ABDB; Haji Adi Ihram bin Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud, Pemangku Pengarah Dasar Pertahanan; Leftenan Kolonel (U) Abu Husin bin Sahat, Penasihat Pertahanan Negara Brunei Darussalam di Singapura dan seorang pegawai daripada Jabatanarah Dasar Pertahanan.

Dimulakan pada tahun 2009, Dialog Dasar Pertahanan ini berfungsi sebagai forum bagi kedua negara untuk mengadakan perbincangan dan menerokai bidang kerjasama pertahanan yang baru. Dialog ini juga memberi peluang bagi kedua belah pihak untuk bertukar-tukar pandangan mengenai isu-isu keselamatan kepentingan bersama.
