SECRETARY DEFENCE OF PAKISTAN IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM FOR 5th JOINT DEFENCE WORKING COMMITTEE

BOLKIAH GARRISON, Wednesday 9 August 2017 – His Excellency Lieutenant General (Retired) Zamir-Ul-Hassan Shah, Secretary Defence, Islamic Republic of Pakistan and his delegation, are in Brunei Darussalam for the 5th Joint Defence Working Committee (JDWC) between both countries from 8 to 10 August 2017.

Prior to the JDWC meeting, His Excellency paid a courtesy call to First Admiral (Retired) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit, the Deputy Minister of Defence this morning. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continue efforts in enhancing the warm and close defence relations between the two countries.

Established under the Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Cooperation signed in 2004, the JDWC serves as a platform for both countries to exchange views on regional security issues of common interest and discuss opportunities to advance the bilateral defence relationship. 

The 5th JDWC was co-chaired by Captain (Retired) Dato Paduka Abd Rahman bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, RBN, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence Brunei Darussalam and His Excellency Lieutenant General (Retired) Zamir-Ul- Hassan Shah. Also in attendance at the meeting were His Excellency Major General (Retired) Tariq Rashid Khan, High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Brunei Darussalam and senior officials from the Ministry of Defence, Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Meanwhile, from Brunei Darussalam’s side, the delegates comprised of senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and Royal Brunei Armed Forces.

In the afternoon, His Excellency called on Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. His Excellency’s programme also included cultural tours to Kampong Ayer and the Royal Regalia Building.

His Excellency’s visit is a testament to the warm and friendly defence relationship between Brunei Darussalam and Islamic Republic of Pakistan. In addition to the JDWC, both sides interact regularly through exchange of visits by senior defence and military officials, study visits, port calls, courses and trainings.

SECRETARY DEFENCE PAKISTAN BERADA DI NEGARA BRUNEI DARUSSALAM BAGI MESYUARAT JAWATANKUASA KERJA PERTAHANAN BERSAMA KE-5

BOLKIAH GARISON, Rabu, 9 Ogos 2017 – Tuan Yang Terutama Leftenan Jeneral (B) Zamir-Ul-Hassan Shah, Secretary Defence, Republik Islam Pakistan serta delegasi sedang berada di Negara Brunei Darussalam bagi mesyuarat Jawatankuasa Kerja Pertahanan Bersama (JKPB) yang ke-5 di antara kedua buah negara dari 8 sehingga 10 Ogos 2017.

Sebelum berlangsungnya mesyuarat JKPB, Tuan Yang Terutama telah mengadakan kunjungan hormat kepada Laksamana Pertama (B) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit, Timbalan Menteri Pertahanan pada pagi tadi di mana kedua belah pihak telah menekankan komitmen masing-masing dalam meneruskan usaha-usaha ke arah mengeratkan lagi hubungan pertahanan yang sedia ada.

Ditubuhkan melalui Perjanjian Persefahaman dalam bidang Kerjasama Pertahanan yang telah ditandatangani pada tahun 2004, JKPB ini merupakan salah satu platform bagi kedua belah pihak untuk bertukar pandangan mengenai isu- isu keselamatan serantau yang berkepentingan bersama dan juga dalam menerokai peluang-peluang kerjasama bagi mengukuhkan hubungan pertahanan di antara Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Republik Islam Pakistan. 

Mesyuarat JKPB tersebut telah dipengerusikan bersama oleh Kepten (B) Dato Paduka Abd Rahman bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, TLDB, Setiausaha Tetap Kementerian Pertahanan Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Tuan Yang Terutama Leftenan Jeneral (B) Zamir-Ul-Hassan Shah. Turut hadir pada mesyuarat berkenaan ialah Tuan Yang Terutama Mejar Jeneral (B) Tariq Rashid Khan, Pesuruhjaya Tinggi Republik Islam Pakistan ke Negara Brunei Darussalam serta pegawai-pegawai kanan dari Kementerian Pertahanan Republik Islam Pakistan. Sementara itu, bagi pihak Negara Brunei Darussalam, delegasi terdiri daripada pegawai-pegawai kanan dari Kementerian Pertahanan dan Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei. 

Pada sebelah petang, Tuan Yang Terutama juga berkesempatan untuk mengadakan kunjungan hormat kepada Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Mejar Jeneral Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, Pemerintah Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei. Selain daripada itu, sebagai sebahagian daripada program JKPB, Tuan Yang Terutama serta delegasi juga dijadualkan untuk membuat lawatan ke Kampung Ayer dan Bangunan Alat-Alat Kebesaran Diraja. 

Secara amnya, lawatan ini mencerminkan hubungan pertahanan yang baik dan mesra di antara Brunei Darussalam dan Republik Islam Pakistan. Di samping platform JKPB, kedua belah pihak juga sering kali berinteraksi melalui pertukaran-pertukaran lawatan, kursus dan latihan.
