DEPUTY MINISTER OF DEFENCE RECEIVES CALL FROM THE SINGAPORE SENIOR MINISTER OF STATE FOR DEFENCE AND FOREIGN AFFAIRS

BOLKIAH GARRISON, Thursday, 18 May 2017 – First Admiral (Retired) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit, the Deputy Minister of Defence today received a courtesy call from His Excellency Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, Senior Minister of State for Defence and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Singapore, who is in Brunei Darussalam for an official visit from 16-19 May 2017.

During the call, the Deputy Minister of Defence expressed his appreciation on His Excellency’s annual visits to Brunei Darussalam in the last few years and both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continue the excellent and longstanding defence ties between both countries.

Since 1976, both countries have enjoyed a close defence relationship that has deepened over the years through a multitude of interactions such as exchange of visits and military exercises. In 2016, Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Singapore commemorated their 40th anniversary of defence relations as well as co-hosted the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) Maritime Security and Counter-Terrorism Exercise in June 2016.

The most recent high profile visit from the Republic of Singapore was in August 2016 when Minister for Defence, Dr Ng Eng Hen was in Brunei Darussalam in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of defence relation during which he had an audience to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam. He also witnessed the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Concerning Defence Technology Cooperation.

 


TIMBALAN MENTERI PERTAHANAN TERIMA KUNJUNGAN HORMAT DARI MENTERI NEGARA KANAN PERTAHANAN DAN HAL EHWAL LUAR NEGERI SINGAPURA

BOLKIAH GARISON, Khamis, 18 Mei 2017 – Laksamana Pertama (B) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit, Timbalan Menteri Pertahanan pada hari ini menerima kunjungan hormat daripada Tuan Yang Terutama Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, Menteri Negara Kanan Pertahanan, Republik Singapura, yang berada di Negara Brunei Darussalam bagi lawatan rasmi dari 16-19 Mei 2017.

Semasa kunjungan tersebut, Timbalan Menteri Pertahanan merakamkan penghargaan kepada Tuan Yang Terutama di atas kekerapan lawatan tahunan beliau ke Negara Brunei Darussalam dan kedua-dua pihak bersetuju untuk memberikan komitmen mereka dalam meneruskan hubungan pertahanan mereka yang sangat baik dan sudah lama terjalin.

Sejak tahun 1976, hubungan pertahanan kedua-dua buah negara bertambah semakin rapat melalui pelbagai aktiviti-aktiviti termasuk pertukaran lawatan dan latihan-latihan tentera. Pada tahun 2016, Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Republik Singapura telah menyambut ulang tahun hubungan pertahanan mereka yang ke-40 dan kedua-duanya juga telah menganjur bersama Latihan Mesyuarat Menteri-Menteri Pertahanan ASEAN-Plus (ADMM-Plus) Sekuriti Maritim dan Anti-Pengganasan.

Lawatan profil tertinggi yang terkini dari Republik Singapura ialah lawatan Menteri Pertahanan, Dr Ng Eng Hen pada bulan Ogos 2016 apabila Menteri Pertahanan Republik Singapura, Dr Ng Eng Hen berada di Negara Brunei Darussalam sempena ulang tahun hubungan pertahanan Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Republik Singapura yang ke-40 dimana beliau menghadap kehadapan majlis Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam. Beliau juga berpeluang untuk hadir selaku saksi di majlis penandatanganan Memorandum Persefahaman (MOU) Concerning Defence Technology Cooperation.
