HIS MAJESTY GRACES THE FAREWELL CEREMONY FOR MEMBERS OF THE 1ST BATTALION, ROYAL GURKHA RIFLES

SERIA, Tuesday 14 March 2017 - His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Minister of Defence and Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces today consented to visit the Brunei Garrison in Seria for the farewell ceremony for members of the 1st Battalion, Royal Gurkha Rifles as they complete their 4-year rotation in Brunei Darussalam.

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was greeted on arrival at the Officers’ Mess of the Brunei Garrison by the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah and the Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, Royal Gurkha Rifles, Lieutenant Colonel Charlie Crowe. Also present was the British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Mr David Campbell.

His Majesty then consented to inspect the Guard of Honour mounted by the personnel of the Royal Gurkha Rifles.

His Majesty also consented to present insignias to three Warrant Officers who were commissioned to the rank of Captain.

The event serves an opportunity for members of the Royal Gurkha Rifles, as well as their families, to meet and interact with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

The Royal Gurkha Rifles is the Infantry Regiment of the Brigade of Gurkhas, in which there are two battalions (1RGR and 2RGR) which alternate between bases in the United Kingdom and Brunei Darussalam. The Royal Gurkhas Rifles have served in Brunei Darussalam since 1962.

The current rotation of the 1st Battalion, Royal Gurkha Rifles has been stationed in Brunei Darussalam since July 2013. They are set to return to the United Kingdom in July this year. They will be replaced by the 2nd Battalion, Royal Gurkha Rifles.

Defence ties has always been an important pillar of the overall Brunei Darussalam-United Kingdom relationship which remains exceptionally strong and close.





 

KDYMM BERKENAN BERANGKAT KE MAJLIS PERPISAHAN BAGI  BATALION PERTAMA, ROYAL GURKHA RIFLES

SERIA, Selasa 14 Mac 2017 - Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam, Menteri Pertahanan dan Pemerintah Tertinggi Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei, telah berkenan berangkat untuk melawat Batalion Pertama, Royal Gurkha Rifles yang akan menamatkan giliran bertugas 4 tahun bertempat di Brunei Garison, Seria.

Keberangkatan Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam ke Mes Pegawai, Brunei Garison dijunjung oleh Pemerintah Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Mejar Jeneral Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah dan Pegawai Pemerintah Batalion Pertama, Royal Gurkha Rifles, Leftenan Kolonel Charlie Crowe. Turut hadir ialah Tuan Yang Terutama David Campbell, Pesuruhjaya Tinggi United Kingdom di Negara Brunei Darussalam.

Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam seterusnya berkenan memeriksa perbarisan kawalan kehormatan yang terdiri dari ahli-ahli Batalion Pertama, Royal Gurkha Rifles.

Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam juga berkenan untuk mengurniakan lencana kepada tiga orang pegawai waran yang dinaikkan kepada pangkat Kapten.

Majlis tersebut memberikan peluang kepada pegawai dan kakitangan Batalion Pertama, Royal Gurkha Rifles beserta keluarga mereka untuk berjumpa dan berinteraksi secara lebih dekat dengan Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam.

The Royal Gurkha Rifles merupakan rejimen infantri daripada Brigade of Gurkha yang mengandungi dua batalion, 1RGR dan 2RGR, yang bertugas di dua pangkalan meliputi United Kingdom dan Negara Brunei Darussalam secara bergilir. The Royal Gurkha Rifles telah berkhidmat di Negara Brunei Darussalam sejak 1962.

Batalion Pertama, Royal Gurkha Rifles yang kini telah berkhidmat di Negara Brunei Darussalam sejak Julai 2013 yang mana mereka dijadualkan untuk kembali ke United Kingdom pada bulan Julai tahun ini dan akan seterusnya digantikan oleh Batalion Kedua, Royal Gurkha Rifles.

Hubungan pertahanan di antara Negara Brunei Darussalam dan United Kingdom merupakan salah satu tunggak utama dalam hubungan dua hala secara keseluruhannya yang kian mantap dan erat.
